  • Works on those closest to the surface of the skin
Dermalogica is one of my favorite skin care brands. I have used it for years. I have break outs once a month. Mine are usually deep and nothing super close to the surface. I do have some that are close to the surface. I used this on a nightly basis when I start to get break outs. When I feel one coming on I use this product. It spreads easily and evenly. It absorbs into the skin well. There is no residue left behind. The break outs that are close to the surface this product works on. The ones that are deep, this product does not make them go away but it does lessen the pain of them. ... show more

  • So far, so good!
I happened to break out with the hugest pimplesdays before receiving Dermalogica's Clear Start Post-breakout Fix, so it was all too convenient to try out this facial product. As we all know, don't pick at your pimple because it'll only make it worst, but mine tend to form and erupt within days without me messing with it... and I was post eruption phase when I applied this fix. The cream itself is a hybrid of gel/cream and only a dab is needed on the area where your pimple's deathbed lie because a little bit goes a long. I applied this product after my face had been thoroughly cleansed in the morning and right before I went to bed, with no residual side effects or irritation to my super-sensitive skin. I woke up the following morning after my first application and as I went to brush my teeth, I noticed the faintest red mark where my zit had been. I dare not touch it but got closer to the mirror to examine the red mark and sure enough, not only had the deep red crater that housed my worst enemy return to it's normal pigmented color, but the pimple had altogether made its exit from my face! I tried not to get overzealous and continued my morning routine, making sure to apply a dab of Dermalogica's product to the same area where the red mark was, and rushed out the door. On my lunch break, I made a mad-dash to grab coffee and as I waited for said coffee there was a huge mirror in front of me... so, I couldn't help but look once more at the "red mark." This time, there was nothing there but a new patch of skin that had grown over the burial site of my zit. I am in awe of how well this product worked, so much so, that I actually want to get another pimple just to try it out once more to see if its efficacy is a real thing! Either way, this facial resource by Dermalogica has saved my skin from scarring and even cut my recovery time for the damaged skin in 1/2! I highly recommend this product for sufferers of acne, especially if the aftermath looks worse than when the main event was front and center on your face. ... show more

  • Skin brightener
I like Dermalogica products, so I wanted to try this one. My daughter and I are both using it. My daughter has quite a few acne breakouts, so she's the one who can say if this works or not. I get occasional breakouts, but I always scar or get hyperpigmentation because I'm sort of olive-skinned. This is a small tube, not much bigger than a lip balm tube, but it's on par with what you get for this sort of specialized balm. It has salicylic acid which is exfoliating; getting rid of the darkened skin that we don't want to see. I don't notice terrible flaking, it seems pretty gentle for something that is working to get rid of skin cells. I will continue to use it on my problematic skin areas. This will take a while for a noticeable difference but I think using this is better than doing nothing. ... show more

  • Average Low-Dose BHA; Suitable for Sensitive Skin
The Dermatologica Clear Start Post-Breakout Fix is intended to help fade post-breakout spots also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation - the redness and scarring you may experience with acne on the mend. While nicely formulated with beneficial ingredients, this little tube is overpriced and average. You get a 0.5oz polyplastic tube of white nearly odorless, medicated gel cream for ~$22 as of this review. This is a low-dose BHA treatment (doesn't state the amount of salicylic acid, so I have to assume it is less than 2%. Otherwise, they have to note the concentration. And because it has such a low amount of BHA, it lessens the risk of irritation for those with sensitive skin. I'm able to use this and like it fine. However, most products with BHAs or AHAs will "fade" marks by promoting cell turnover through exfoliation. If you are already using a SA wash or SA toner, or vitamin C serum, for example, you don't need to use yet another topical product to fade hyperpigmentation. Regularly using an SPF helps tremendously too as it inhibits the UV response of damaged skin to redden. But if you are looking for a mild medicated topical gel to spot treat your red marks, this is fine and will likely help. To me though, it seems like an unnecessary extra step. ... show more

  • Fairly effective and expensive
I find this post-breakout fix fairly effective, although not a miracle worker. It's a tiny tube of medicated spot treatment that encourages faster cell turnover to improve appearance of reddened skin. Like all Dermalogica product, expensive.
