Top Amazon Reviews

  • Check the vendor's ratings
Style: laptop
A number of vendors are selling this laptop and the reviews are combined. I purchased mine from Skytech and it arrived in pristine condition and with all the features described. Check your seller's ratings before buying. I used the SPECCY (free download) app to check the hardware and it was also as described. A wifi connection was necessary to validate the Windows 10 Pro (and start the computer) and it worked flawlessly without any manual input of codes. Streaming Netflix was also flawless. I do recommend purchasing this laptop from a vendor with at least a 94 percent approval rating. It's very fast. Storage is comparatively limited, but available online cloud storage offsets that. Previous apps had been wiped from the hard drive. It came with a media viewer and microsoft Edge, plus the usual array of other microsoft apps. I downloaded Avast free and Glary Utilities 5 (free). Ran both, no problems found. That doesn't mean some time isn't required to update the machine. Windows update found a number of updates that needed to be installed. Once those have been added, the work is still not complete. Doing a search for Dell E6430 drivers will pull up the link to Dell's support page. They have an app that will identify everything on their computer that needs to be updated, and most of what it finds can be updated automatically. Only the firmware update requires manual intervention. This laptop came without any additional documentation. Clicking on the documentation tab on the Dell Support page provides access to nine different documents relevant to the machine, including the Owner's Manual, that can be downloaded and saved to the laptop's desktop. There is also a diagnostics tab and an app that will scan for hardware issues. The scan showed no problems on my laptop, but I felt more secure after running it. I also purchased a new HP 17 inch laptop with all the bells and whistles and an AMD A9 2 corechip this year. This older machine with an Intel I5 4 core chip coupled with the SSD drive is noticeably faster. Windows 10 Pro is a $99 option, but most of the additional features would only be of interest to a business with an IT department. This laptop is a little heavier than some others, but I expect the tri metal chassis will prove more durable than laptops with a plastic chassis. In short, if purchased from a reliable vendor, I would recommend this machine. ... show more

  • Great system, great deal, great support!!!
Style: laptop
I was more than a little dubious about buying a refurbished computer but decided to take a chance. But now I am glad I did! The computer was shipped 2nd Day Air via UPS even though I did not spend the extra $12 for that service. On arrival, the computer was reasonably well packaged though a little extra crumpled paper would have been nice. The box held the computer and the charger. Initial inspection show a computer in excellent cosmetic condition. No scratches, scraps, dents or smudges marred the casing. On power up the computer failed to boot to windows. The stop code indicated an Inaccessible Boot Drive. I called the support number on the little card that came with the computer and after about a minute of dealing with a phone tree was connected to a live support tech who spoke excellent English. I explained the problem and he had me check several items in the BIOS. When that failed to resolve the problem, he helped me use the advanced recovery options to wipe the system drive and reinstall Windows. The entire conversation took less than 30 minutes and at end my new laptop booted to Windows with no problem. I would class the support offered as Grade A. Once Windows was running, I was able to look around. The computer is actually better than advertised on Amazaon. I got a Dell Latitude E6430 with an Intel Core I5, a new or near new Sandisk 128GB SSD with no detectable wear, 8 GB of RAM memory, a DVD-RW, USB 3.0, an eSATA connection, a slot for an Express Card, blue tooth and wifi. And the system fast! It runs circles around my old Celeron N3060. Windows updates that took hours on the Celeron now take minutes. There are only two drawbacks to the system that I have encountered. First, this system eats battery life like there is no tomorrow! I doubt I could get 3 hours of heavy usage using only the battery. I don't know if it is the system or simply an old battery. More on that later. The second problem is that the system runs hot, hotter than I expected. This may be the system or simply the system pulling so much power from the battery. More investigation is needed. Regardless, I ordered a laptop cooling pad from Amazon for $15 which will make the problem go away. All in all, I got a great deal for about $250. ... show more

  • It’s a great computer that came out in 2012
Style: laptop
My wife was using a ten year old laptop that had very dated components. I bought the Dell e6430s from Blazing Prices because my last place of business used this model and I couldn’t stand my wife’s crying from the next room. According to the service tag, Dell says my computer went off warranty in June of 2017. This means it probably was placed in service in 2013. The machine shows little visible wear and the keyboard looks new. What I/we like is that it boots up quickly and silently. It has Bluetooth and Wifi although it doesn’t recognize the 5g that my router offers. Prime movies and other streams work well. What you should do if you get one: Visit the Dell site and enter the service tag. My tag wasn’t visible or the information was buried in an added sticker so I used CMD in Windows to find it in the BIOS. If you don’t want to do that, Dell can connect with the computer and figure it out. The Dell diagnostic revealed a couple of urgent updates that I installed. My dislikes are few; the power supply is aftermarket and has a multi language warning that it could get hot. This power supply now resides in a travel bag since we also bought the docking station with a genuine Dell power supply. One of the two USB ports on the laptop doesn’t work consistently. It does okay with a travel mouse but when I plug an auxiliary drive in it, I have to fiddle with the cable to make good contact. This probably means that port saw a lot of use. The 128Gb drive sure fills up fast. I will probably swap it out with something larger. My wife adds that she really loves this machine. ... show more
