I used to race short course trucks 12 years ago and am getting back into rc. A friend of mine suggested this brand to me and this model seemed like it could be fun. Out of the box all accessories promised were included and was in perfect shape. Had a little bit of a radio issue and I called service and they were amazing. They got me going and now it runs great. This review is for the DEERC, VELOCITY ROAR, BLACK W/GOLD FLAKES, MODEL....I like everything except one very crucial aspect about this little RC. The shock absorbers are way too tight. With them being too tight it makes this little RC almost impossible to get the power to the ground without wheelie/ back-flipping, plus when turning under speed the car will just flip/traction roll every single time. I had a spare set of 1/16 scale Haiboxing, RC shocks that are about half as stiff as the ones that came on this RC and the difference was like night and day, I am now actually able to push the RC more to it's limits over and over again without having to constantly make the long walk of shame to go flip it back onto it's wheels. ... show more

It's been a few years since I've run RC cars, but my favorites were always a 1/8th scale nitro truggy and a 1/10th scale electric 4x4 short course truck. This 1/14th scale truck is a bit smaller than either of those, and it reminds me of the truggy more than the SC truck, FWIW. This is more than just a toy, it's an entry-level RC truck that will allow you to experience the RC car hobby in all its glory. It's functional out of the box, fairly rugged and is fun as heck to run. You could use it like that and be pretty happy with, it if that's all you're looking for. But this truck is fully adjustable, from changing the weight of the oil in the shocks so it feels different on the ground, to adjusting the wheels and steering for better control and power. I run it mostly at 70% as I value control over speed. And as squirrely as it is at 70%, it's even worse at 100%! If you really want speed, they make RC dragsters and funny cars you know... Normally I would make changes to the RC controller settings to make it less squirrely but the controller that comes with it is pretty basic, you can only trim the left/right steering and throttle, there are no mixes or curves that can be adjusted for better control. But that's one of the cool things about this RC truck, I can swap in a different radio for one of my fancier RC controllers and get all those adjustments and then tune it in properly if I want to. I have had several RC cars and drones in my life. I have had both battery and gas engine vehicles. The DEERC has a very fast, powerful electric brushless engine. I like the ease of use of battery operated RC cars like this one. There is very little prep…you charge the batteries (two included) with the included battery charger. You supply two AA batteries for the remote. Then you attach the body panel with the 4 included clips. When you turn on the remote and car, they automatically pair with each other in a matter of 5 seconds or less and you are ready to go! This DEERC car is built with quality parts. The body is made of metal, not plastic. You have independent oil filled shocks similar to my Nitro Methane fueled car which cost a LOT more. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the ability to get the car wet without ruining it. My older Nitro car can NOT get wet without ruining the electronics/carburetor/Gas engine/servo. I only test drove the DEERC twice, but it was super easy to get started driving right out of the box. While driving it, I said to myself, “It’s fast, but I don’t think it goes close to 50 mph”. I forgot there is a switch on the controller that I had set to 70% power. I switched it to 100% and was blown away at the difference in speed/power! It launched from a dead stop so fast that it wheelied and flipped backwards…several times. I will have to mount the wheelie bar to stabilize it. An area for improvement: I wish the controller was a little larger for my hands and had more features; however, a basic controller like this likely keeps the price down. During my first two test drives, I lost 4 clips. Fortunately, they included some extras, but I am almost scared to use them. I pressed them on all the way and still lost them the second time Pros: It powers through grass, gravel, dirt and isn’t too shabby on black top. Keeping it in a straight line (like a drag race) is a bit difficult, however. It drifts slightly to one side or the other, but this is not designed as a race car so I will not count that against this car. This RC car is so fun to drive around, writing this review makes me want to get it out and run it again! I rate this a solid 5 stars. I wanted to provide a video, but found it too difficult to do solo because it is so fast. ... show more
