The double wooden borders around these picture frames gives them a distinctive and classy appearance, and the small wooden axles attaching the center portion of the frame (which actually contains your picture) to the outer wooden border adds on to that by allowing you to rotate the center-photo portion, giving you versatility in how you can position and display your photos. I'm actually using these frames to show pictures both vertically (short-side-up) and horizontally (long-side-up). For vertical displays, the axles allow you to angle your picture to the left or right. The only note of concern for these frames comes with displaying photos horizontally, where the axles allow you to tilt the photograph up or down slightly. Because of gravity, the center portion of the frame has a tendency to want to stay straight (i.e., aligned with the outer portion of the frame, straight up and down)...you'll only get about 10 to 12 degrees of tilt when angling up in this configuration, but that should be enough to provide a bit of accent to your photo display. However, a much bigger concern--also caused by gravity--is that the weight of the center portion of the frame causes the two small wooden axles on either side to bend downward: they don't appear to be sturdy enough to fully support the central portion. It is something definitely worthy of note, as it raises questions about the frames' long-term durability--and for me, is enough to warrant deducting one star. So far, though, the frames have been working normally. I'll try to update this rating if something changes.

Mine arrived in great shape. They look nice and have a great warm color. The rotation works smoothly but stays in place. Nice frames. Hopefully other people who ended up with damaged ones were able to get theirs replaced as they have a great look.
