  • BOOM for your buck....
ok, for starters, I have played professionally in rock bands for over 25 years, and I have owned Strats, LPs, Jacksons...and at the same time I have spent a fortune to own them..yeah, its always nice to flash a cool brand name to impress people, but eventually we all grow up and look at things in a better way than just vanity..recently I have been putting together a ZZTop tribute and our dilemma was how me and the bassist could score matching guitars on a very small budget. we were more into the looks of the trib than the sound..we looked all over the net and finding a similar bass and guitar was harder than i thought..by accident i came across perhaps one of the most unique guitars i have seen in a long time, the Dean Custom Zone. Not only was it a really cool dayglo color, but the neck was the same fluorescent green as the body.. I for one had never seen a colored neck before..what REALLY caught my eye was the price of [...] bucks !!! how could i go wrong, I have spent more money than that on strings before...this was exactly what i needed, but i was worried that for my show to sound good, i would have to modify the hell out of it to get a decent sound...I plugged it into my Line 6 Spider, set the preset to "LaGrange" and i was knocked on my butt from the first strum..not only was this a cool looking guitar, it sounded amazing for such a basic pickup system..it definitely sounded better than any of my under [...]guitars...but i thought, ok I got lucky, but it certainly is gonna have intone problems or neck adjustment issues...I played every wicked lick i could from George Lynch to Eddie Van Halen, stretching the strings and testing the tuning peg strength to their limits.I have now been playing this guitar for a few weeks 2 hours a day, and ive only tuned it 2 times....AMAZING ! with Christmas coming up, i cant seriously enough tell you that this is the best deal, the best guitar, and the most unique axe this side of [...] bucks easy ! It is now my main guitar believe it or not AND I bought a pink one and am saving for the purple...very awesome !!! ... show more

  • Another Well-Deserved 5 Star Review for this Beautiful Baby
I wanted to wait a few days and give this guitar some time before I reviewed it. I currently own 2 other Dean guitars including a 12 string and I wanted to say that I bought this guitar based upon the reviews here on Amazon which I most often do. I have to admit I really like Dean humbuckers. This guitar did not disappoint. It is beautiful, and that shiny chrome-like green neck with silver fret bars is awesome. This guitar is VERY playable--fits well in my hands and has nice low action. I really like the sound it puts out and it DOES stay in tune contrary to the negative comments I read to the contrary. I really like these tuners because they a precise. It sounds awesome through my Zoom G5 effects pedal. I agree with the reviewer who said 'buy it now'. You won't be sorry. This is now my main squeeze especially for anything rock. I recorded 4 Iron Maiden songs with it. Sweet!!!!!!!! I love this guitar. I just love it. I can't say that enough. ... show more

  • A very pleasant surprise!
I ordered this guitar in fluorescent ("Nuclear") green in October 2010, and it arrived very swiftly just before Halloween, which I thought was appropriate. I have been playing guitar to a greater or lesser degree for 45 years, and I own Gibsons and Fenders as well as guitars from other well-known brands. I'll admit I did not expect a great deal from this guitar, given its price, but I was pleasantly surprised when I unboxed it and tuned it up. The action was agreeably low (I like it on the low side) and despite this fact, there were no buzzes or fret-outs on any string at any point on the neck. The fret ends at each edge of the fingerboard are properly filed! This is a nice surprise, as a failure to file fret ends is a bugaboo of most guitarists and unfortunately something one sometimes finds on guitars that come from the geographical location this one did. In all, it is a very comfortable guitar to play. The neck profile is a nice compromise between what I understand to be a "shredder" shallow profile (which I personally dislike) and a deeper profile characteristic of many electric guitars from the pre-shredder era. I'm a jazz/blues/hard rock guy, not a shredder, and for jazz (yes, jazz, like Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall, but I can't play like those guys!) this neck is just fine. The finish is very much as shown in the picture (and can probably be described as an acquired taste, although I certainly love it!). It does light up A LOT under a 48-inch single-tube fluorescent black light. I wish the orange one was still available--I like this one enough to want to buy one of those. D R Strings has just come out with their fluorescent line of coated strings, and of course I had to install a set of the Neon Green ones. The stock pickups on the Dean do not pick up the unwound high strings very well. As the guitar is still quite new, I don't know if this is attributable to the strings or the pickups. Nevertheless the guitar will receive a set of Ernie Ball "Skinny Top, Heavy Bottom" strings when these are done, as well as the SH-6 pickups from the Seymour Duncan Distortion Mayhem Set I bought for the guitar today. Why these pickups? Consider the guitar! In sum, I would recommend this guitar without reservation, provided you can get one as nice as mine. I would suggest eventual replacement of the tuners if you are very particular about maintaining concert pitch (and if you use the vibrato bar, which is something I don't do very often). A nice black set of Grover locking tuners may find their way onto my Dean Custom Zone at some point. Replacement of the stock pickups might also be worthwhile if you do your own guitar mod work and can get a decent set for a decent price. The stockers may do the job for you, as they don't sound at all bad for the jazz, blues and rock pieces I've played using them. The only complaint I can make about this guitar is that the vibrato bar ("whammy bar" to some) did not accompany the guitar as shipped to me. I picked one up at a local music store for $8, so it wasn't a huge issue. ... show more

  • Solid guitar for the price
I ordered this about a year after I purchased the Dean Custom Zone Solid Body Bass Guitar and being vary satisfied with it. This is another solid guitar that frankly due to the price cannot be beaten. It would be nice if it came a with a Tremolo bar, but frankly its not 100% really necessary, but it is pictured with the guitar which is why I'm assuming is the only reason why its under review. I'm probably just going to spend five dollars and have one delivered. Other than that I ordered new strings to put on it, because Earnie Ball strings are going to be better with whatever it comes with, but I've played it before replacing that strings and I'm overall equally as satisfied with this guitar as I am with their bass. ... show more

  • My husband loves it!!
My husband says he absolutely loves his guitar. Love the mahogany and also the color. He wants to note that it is not an electric green like in the picture but rather a darker offset of fluorescent green. Sounds good and comes with a lifetime warranty. He is very excited to play it.
