This is a great kit for someone who needs an angle grinder for the occasional grinding/cutting DIY'er. I would probably stick to a name brand (Makita, DeWalt, etc.) if you plan on using it all the time and/or are really rough/tough on your tools. It's nice having the included cutting and grinding wheels so you have everything you need right out of the box. For comparison I have a corded Makita grinder and they both seem to have the same amount of power/performance for my occasional uses. Most recently I used this grinder to cut through stucco for a microwave/fan exhaust vent. I used a diamond blade (not included in the kit) and it had no problem. Don't forget to use safety glasses (ideally a full face shield!) and hearing protection whenever you're using an angle grinder! Compared to the Makita grinder I have, this one is very similar BUT one thing I like better with this grinder vs the Makita is when using the cutting guard, there is more space for the included tool to tighten the nut/disk holding the cutting wheel on. The Makita was a pain to fit the wrench in without the bottom of the guard getting in the way....kinda hard to explain: I can't find the pics on my phone for some reason...I'll take new ones and add them to this review to show what I'm talking about. This is my only corded angle grinder. Compared to my name-brand cordless grinder, it is significantly lighter and at least as strong. It comes with flapper and cutoff wheels, which is nice even if they're not the highest quality. It may not stand up to heavy, constant use, but for what I need it is great. ... show more

For years I've done all of my grinding, whether it be welding or other needs, with my old industrial 7-inch Black and Decker unit (see the photo). That old grinder is a beast and can handle any job, but it's big, heavy, and cumbersome. I've intended to try one of the smaller 4-1/2 inch units for a long while but was skeptical that they'd have the power I want--and I knew my old big B&D would get the job done. I recently had a chance to pick up this DCK KSM17-115B grinder through the Vine program--and I jumped at it. I'm really impressed with the quality and performance of this grinder! It is a well-built unit with some nice features. The sliding filters for the intake air will help prolong life if you're working in dirty conditions. The slide switch is in a natural location and is easy to use with a simple depress lock-on. The 9.2 amp motor provides almost as much raw power as my big B&D, and the 11,800 RPM provides even more edge speed on a 4-1/2" disc than my unit's 4800 RPM gives me on a 7" disc. The huge plus is that the same power and disc edge speed is available in a 4.6 pound compact tool instead of one twice the size weighing over 12 pounds. The overall result is that in every task I've tried so far this DCK grinder performs just as well as my big 7 inch grinder and is MUCH easier to maneuver and use. I can't evaluate whether the tool life will match the many years of my B&D, but the unit is heavily built, and DCK believes it will because not only do they have a 2-year warranty, but they also furnish a replacement set of brushes to replace the installed units when they reach the protective auto-stop point. Although I can't directly compare this DCK KSM17-115B grinder to the other 4-1/2 inch competition, as a stand alone evaluation I can say that is a well built, heavy duty tool that performs at the level of my much larger industrial unit in a much easier to use package. ... show more

This is my first angle grinder. I have used it 2x. First to grond down a piece of concrete (that was a bit of a chore and kind of messy but the results were great!). Second to cut through some rebar. I wish I would have had this sooner. I can nearly retire my hack saw!

For a slightly under-powered grinder (6amps vs 11 or so) I was hoping this grinder would be a little lighter. For those that do a lot of prep work on metal to get it ready for welding, it's nice to have a lighter weight grinder that you can use with one hand to knock off and clean up edges, especially if they are coming from the plasma cutter. Because this grinder is a little on the heavy side, it really should be used with 2 hands and therefore with 2 hands, I generally want to really lay on the tool to move a lot of metal fast, but because it's only 6amp, it's not hard to bog this one down. Having said this, it is quite a bit less expensive than the other grinders I'm talking about, so IMO it's still a really good value. Comes with a couple of flap disks which were okay, and also comes with a couple cutoff disks, which were not great, but okay if you're just starting out with cutoff wheels. The guards are nothing special and require screwdriver to adjust which is dumb. Also comes with an arbor wrench, which you should throw in the trash since all disks/flaps/wheels or whatever should only go on hand tight and therefore can be removed easily without any tools. ... show more
