  • Very good guide for the 70D. Basic but very informative.
I bought my husband a Canon EOS 70D for Christmas which was a huge step up from his old camera. It has so many features! My son did a lot of research and chose this guide for my husband as a gift to help him make the transition from his older camera to this spiffy new high tech one. My husband has been completely engrossed in the book and says it is a simple to understand, comprehensive overview of the camera's functions which make it really easy for him to get to know his new camera. Other family members bought him a couple of books on the camera as well but my husband prefers this one by David Busch over the others. While it is fairly standard as far as explaining basic functionality, that is exactly what a new user needs. Later, when my husband has all the features down, he can go on to read about more advanced things he can do with the camera. I read some of the book myself, trying to acquaint myself with the new camera and it was written in plain, simple English and not over my head. I found it very informative. My husband says to give this book 5 stars and he recommends it to people who are not well acquainted with the 70D and want to learn about its basic functionality, how to use the features, and basically get to know about the camera in an easy to understand and informative way. ... show more

  • The Best Guide I've Seen So Far On My Canon 70D.
Having recently purchased a Canon 70D DSLR camera - after shooting video professionally for years - I have been scouring the Internet for any and all helpful tips on using my new camera. This Compact Field Guide is by far the best I have found to help me understand all of the functions of my 70D.This well-written guide covers all of the most important settings on the 70D, and it is presented in a personable fashion that - believe it or not - makes it a genuine 'page turner'. I read the entire guide on my computer in only a few days, but I also printed a copy and keep it with my camera gear bag and have referred to it more times than I can count in just a short time. The index makes it easy to look up any setting that I may need a refresher on. For the 70D owners reading this who have ventured into the camera's extensive settings, this guide will save you a lot of time. Congratulations to Mr. Busch for writing an excellent guide. ... show more

  • Compact EOS 70D Guide a Good Choice
This book does a good job of expanding on the tiny manual that comes with this feature-laden camera. It goes point by point, with pretty clear explanations of the technical features. The spiral binding allowing it to lie flat or be folded over backwards is great and the size means it fits in your bag. I recommend the book. ... show more

  • Easy to use and well set up!
I recently purchased a Canon 70d and purchased several "guides" for it. This one is, in my opinion, by far the best. I have purchased other guides written by David Busch, so I really wasn't surprised. I wouldn't say that there is anything in this guide that you wouldn't find in any of the others, but this one just seems easier to use to me. I find myself generally searching for the fringe stuff.... (I know how to turn the camera on and insert a memory card....) so if I go to the book it's usually not a simple thing. The book is set up to mirror all the menus in the camera so if you're looking at the camera and want to know what a certain setting does it's also easy to find an explanation. If you buy I hope you are as happy as I was and thanks for taking the time to read my review. ... show more

  • Busch's 70D "COMPACT FIELD GUIDE" versus his 70D book "EOS 70D Digital SLR Photography"
The 70D Compact Field Guide is without question the best presentation of the 70D between his two literary versions. (See my review of his Digital SLR book version for a more complete review.) In truth, the "Field Guide" version is the best, most comprehensive, and readable presentation of the 70D currently available. It is so good it should have been included in the Canon packing box. Make no mistake, this field guide is a "book" not an outline. Everything you need to know is contained in this guide. Look no further. Recommended. One warning: Chapter 6 pp. starting at 170 is missing the whole section which explains "live movie Compression, Resolution, and Frame Rates". ( This includes the explanations of Movie 2 Menu options such as: "All-I, IBP, and Compression Resolutions". The concepts and meanings are very easy to read and understand. Unfortunately they were left out of the Field Guide, but are in his book version. ... show more

  • Great concise guide!
I purchased this guide to compliment my purchase of David Busch's CANON EOS 70D Guide to Digital SLR Photography. I purchased my CANON 70D last August when first released upgrading from a CANON REBEL XSi. I had used David's guide for my old camera and was very impressed with his instructional writing style which led me to purchase his new books for my new camera (Note: David I waited FIVE months for the release of this book!). I have NOT been disappointed as the Field Guide is perfect for my ADD personality! Both guides are a great addition to what I personally feel is a fantastic camera for this photo enthusiast! ... show more
