  • It Pleases This Pirate!
I live on a boat. Now, I used to have a memory foam mattress, and a quilted mattress topper on top of this, and I was quite comfortable. Unfortunately, both started to mold (one of the hazards of living on the water), and what's worse, the memory foam started to retain condensation like the really big sponge that it actually is, which continued to mold and mildew, eventually decomposing and giving off ammonia...yeah, NOT comfortable and NOT healthy, to say the least! So, out it came and into the dumpster it went. The first couple of nights just sleeping on the cushions in the forward berth were okay, if a little painful when I rolled over onto the center insert that has a slightly raised wood railing for the metal catches, so I decided to look for another kind of mattress. I only briefly considered an air mattress...briefly, in that I remembered having one, and it was poofy in the wrong places, noisy when it rubbed against anything, and caused my body heat to be reflected back in uncomfortable ways...and then it wound up leaking, and one of the baffles blew out, and...you get the picture. Then I saw this. I read the reviews of many other futons, both expensive and el-cheapo, and finally decided on this one...and I am VERY glad that I did! This futon, on top of the cushions in the forward berth, make for probably one of the most comfortable beds I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping on...and when I get up, my back doesn't hurt, the way some conventional beds have made it in the past. It has just the right amount of firmness to it (for me, anyway), and...what can I say? Both of the cats love it! It's easily rolled up and left out of the way to air out so I don't have to worry about the cloying dampness claiming it the way it did with the memory foam, and if it ever gets any kind of smell to it, I can always hang it outside over the boom...and have a much easier time of doing so than with the foam! No, it's not 55 lbs, as listed in the Q&A above. It's much lighter than this. I'd hazard a guess at around 15-20. I will definitely be purchasing another if anything happens to this one. It's comfy, it's relatively inexpensive, and so far, it seems very durable (even to kitten claws!). ... show more

  • Very comfortable
Bought this and I'm thoroughly impressed with its quality and the comfort it provides. It fits my life style really well, as it's very comfortable to sleep on and easy to roll for storage and moving. I would highly recommend this!

  • Good night's sleep for a really good price!
I'm really happy with this mattress. My back felt great after sleeping on it for a while, and I don't think I'd slept that soundly in ages, folks. It's super comfy and big enough to get a second person on there, if that need arises. One word of caution: if you've got bad knees, getting up off this mattress can require a little getting used to. I lay brick and have the knees of someone who skateboarded a bit too much in his youth, so the first couple of nights were spent hilariously trying to get up off the floor. But stick with it, I say. I didn't bother with sheets, either, just a blanket for a topsheet and a fleece to stay reasonably warm. (Admittedly: I sleep better when I'm cold.) If you're ready to throw off the shackles of the mattress/box spring cartels, this is a good purchase and a heck of a good price. (Getting it delivered was, politely speaking, a bit of a rigamaroll, but that's all on FedEx and not a reflection on the seller or Amazon in the least. They delivered it to the FedEx facility in the wrong town and then didn't answer their phones on the weekend and...well, it was a real hassle, ladies and gents. Again, that's FedEx. Go ahead and buy this mattress.) ... show more

  • Filling shifts
So considering the price, it's a good product. Within a few weeks of owning it the filling has definitely shifted to the bottom of the mattress, leaving it a little bare where we actually sleep, but it is fairly comfortable. Wish we would have invested in a little bit better quality though.

  • Well made, lovely color - not the best for sleeping long term
We bought this to use as a main bed. Perhaps we just weren’t in the right stage of life for it. If I was still a single person (or even just a couple) sleeping on this nightly (young, fit, no aches and pains), this might still be alright. I used it while I became a mother, and it quickly became apparent that the cushioning was just not enough for my postpartum, aching hips. We traveled with it - it fit on the floor of our minivan nicely. We folded it up, aired it out, took care of it. It did the job and did it well. It was sturdy, well made, and lasted many years. However I would never buy it again - but only due to my own cushiony needs. ... show more

  • First night report - very happy :)
Ours had a mild odor - that went away quickly. We also bought the Shikibuton tri-fold pad to go under it. The Tan color is more of an Olive green - just in case anyone cares. Mostly likely it will be covered in sheets anyway. The cover canNOT be easily removed for washing. First night sleep was very comfortable! (We changed from a Sealy memory foam CalKing to a Queen Futon.) So far very happy :) --- UPDATE 3 years later, we slept on this from July 2017 through March 2018. Then put it in storage to travel. Got our stuff out in July 2019 and we were excited to go back to our previously comfy futon. It had changed from comfy to a back killer. So bad I couldn't sleep on it. We got a pillow top cover to help. This 'futon' loses it's comfort quickly and develops divots. --- I suspect you will be happy with it at first and after a few months not so much. If it is your regular sleeper. -- Also, I have lived in Japan and slept on real futons, they are super comfy. A real Japanese futon this is not. ... show more
