This Japanese mattress is used on the floor at night for sleeping and traditionally rolled up during the day to free up some space in the room.
  • When it comes to futon, Japanese style futon is the most popular Japanese bed. Use a tatami mat with the futon to adjust moisture, just place this futon bedding on the floor or a tatami for sleeping or store it in the closet for any occasion.
  • This futon mattress is compressed and delivered in a vacuum bag. After opening the vacuum bag, the Futon mattress will gain air and return to its original condition. Wrinkles and corrugation may happen on the Futon during packaging for delivery, but this is not a defect, please air for a few hours.
  • To keep the mattress lasting longer, please use any large mattress cover sheet or comforter to put all over the mattress while using. It will make the floor mattress fresh in your own style. Make sure to wash the protector cover sheet sometimes and place the mattress outside under the sunny day for drying and airing. If the Futon is stored for a while, it should be dried first and stored in a dry place with the covers removed. Dry the Futon on a regular basis even if not in use.

Love it! Good value.
I've been sleeping on this for about two months now and it's perfect for what I wanted. I use a thin pad on the floor, then a Klymit double air sleeping pad then this mattress on the floor and it's really helped my back a lot and given me more body mobility by my having to get up from floor level every time I need to get out of bed. I had some physical problems and had lost muscle tone due to healing tendons that had ripped in one hip and this is the perfect solution. My age is 62. I don't think I'll go back to a frame unless I really have to since that requires no body movement to just walk over and sit down on a bed at that height. I think people are made to sleep lower and I like it much better than using a queen frame, plus the room feels so much nicer and uncrowded now. It's in good condition, I roll it up every two weeks or so when I remake the bed. I live alone so I don't need to change the sheets every week anymore, but if I want to that would be a bit better for the mattress. Because of the sleeping pad underneath it never feels flat and that Klymit pad is very thin, but buoyant! I highly recommend this pad. I've rolled it up twice and flipped top to bottom once and it's all good. UPDATE: over six months and I really like it more and more. My only problem with sleeping on the floor was that it was really hard for me to make my bed on my knees so I am trying some other things. I will update with my design solution after it's made and I've tried it for a while. I am thinking 60"x80", 1" ply with rounded corners, over 4 heavy duty wheels should do it. Height is the quandary. 1' is my max and I think it should be more like 10" high. I'll update a last time with an opinion. The mattress still rocks! ... show more

i like it and use it as a topper....
so far i like it very much. i purchased a firm foam queen size mattress about 3 months ago. i liked it but for some reason, and because i was having a little lower back discomfort, it felt like something was missing for me. i like a firm but not floor hard feel. after viewing this A&D futon and because it is not too expensive, i decided to put this futon on my foam bed and use as a topper. i like it a lot and it is not too soft, not too hard. please know that i do not use this on the floor and if i did i probably would use a foam mat underneath. also know that i have only had this for one week but i think it is great. i am pleased and glad i gave it a try. especially for the price. i will write another review in about a month to see how i feel about it then. the size is accurate ...60 x 80 x3. no bad smell. no back pain. yes , i would buy it again......,,,, UPDATE: after buying the 3" futon, i later purchased a 4" trillion-fold mattress. put the tri fold on my platform bed and then the 3' FUTON ON TOP AND I LIKE IT VERY MUCH. BETTER THAN MY OTHER FOAM MATRESS. firm but not too hard. comfy. ... show more

Great Mattress
I bought this mattress because I was looking for a temporary mattress that I could store away in a closet easily before getting a real bed.. The mattress is really comfortable and I have been sleeping on it for more than 2 weeks now. It does flatten out and requires shaking or fluffing after a while. The gray is more of a blue gray rather than a silvery gray. I was disappointed in the shipping, because I paid extra to get it expedited but still waited a week for it to get delivered to NY. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't pay for the extra shipping costs. ... show more

Seriously, so amazing. We will never go back to a "real bed"!
We have now been sleeping on this futon for nearly two months now. Not only do we sleep better, I don't wake up with hip/lower back pain like I did often on a "real" bed, and my husband's doesn't wake up with back aches either, as he used to. We fold it up against the wall during the day for extra space when we need it, which is really nice! And, we can roll it up and take it with us when we travel! My husband and I are both side sleepers, and we both LOVE it. I don't think we will ever go back to sleeping on a regular bed. That being said, if you prefer to sleep on clouds, the futon experience is not for you. I think the terrible reviews on this project are because they didn't know what they were getting into, and were maybe confused about the concept of a Japanese futon. If you like a firm but still comfy sleeping surface, I'd encourage you to jump in! Last, I was incredibly impressed at how quickly the item shipped; we had it in less than a week. :) The one thing I don't particularly like is actually the straps for tying it up for moving it around; they're REALLY long, and you have to knot them pretty tightly or they'll slip off because the fabric is so smooth. ... show more

Great for everyday sleeping
My husband and I bought this to replace a Sleepnumber bed. We both have back problems since moving home to the west after living in Japan (and sleeping on traditional Japanese shikibuton) for about 4 years. We tried a number of expensive beds that we're supposed to help with pain before we realized that floor sleeping was what worked best for us. We found this brand on a Japanese website as a recommended shiki "dupe" at an affordable price. We sleep in a carpeted room, and although one mattress was fine for me, my husband insisted we get a second. We've slept on two stacked futon each night, and it's the most comfortable sleep we've had in quite some time. Instead of a traditional tatami mat, we lay the futon on a flat sheet, top them with a mattress pad to ensure their longevity and then make the bed as you'd do with any western mattress. So far we've hung them up weekly to air out and fluff up, and rotate them. I can't say enough about how comfortable they are. Save yourself the hundreds or thousand dollar mattress, these are just as good. The mattress arrives in a box and is wrapped in plastic. It has a slight smell immediately upon opening, but it quickly dissipates. Also, I reached out to the seller with questions and got prompt and courteous responses so the customer service matches the product quality. ... show more

A Firm Non-Air-Bed
I was looking for an airbed alternative for guests who come to stay in my living room. Personally I hate airbeds with a great fervor. Do they ever not deflate or leave sore spots on the hips and shoulders?? This is a firm-style mattress and it is just the right size for a single adult, or two adults who like cuddling close at night (a rare breed). I've had 5 guests sleep on it and most thought it was too firm for their liking; we added a queen-sized foam topper to it to make it softer and that seemed to improve it for them. Americans like soft mattresses, I guess? It isn't too hard to roll up; even my 71-year-old mother-in-law rolled it up every morning. In storing it, it definitely has a bigger footprint that an air mattress would, but it fits long ways under my half of our queen bed frame. We kept the plastic bag it was shipped in so that it doesn't get dusty in between uses. ... show more

This has saved my back! + 2 Year Update
I love this thing. Seriously one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Traditional mattresses (even extra firm) were leaving me with back and hip pain. I went with this futon based on other reviews and I’m so happy I did. It’s well made, no strange ordors, the straps to tie it up are super helpful, and it’s great that they come in standard US sizes. I’m able to use all of my queen size sheets and bedding with the queen size futon with no problem. Every week or two I take it outside to air it out and then fluff it a little. After 6 months it’s still comfortable and looking great. And my back pain? 100% gone. 2-year Update: I’ve used this futon every night for just about two years now and I still love it. The construction has held up super well. No rips or tears anywhere even with moving it around fairly regularly. It’s squished down a bit, which is to be expected, but I continue to fluff as needed and it’s still super comfortable. ... show more

It's a pillow, not a mattress
So, I bought this item because it is listed as a "futon mattress." It is not. It is a pillow. A big, fat pillow. If you're looking for a pillow that is approximately the size of a queen mattress, then this is the item for you. If you're looking for a futon mattress that might one day be used by a guest, I strongly encourage you to keep shopping. I was going to return the item, but don't have the time or wherewithal to do it. What can I say? I'm lazy. So instead, I'm sharing my thoughts on the product and taking the $120 hit as a cautionary tale about buying D & D products. It's not that the item is flawed in any way. It's not, but it is also not what it claims to be. If one were unlucky enough to use this item as a bed, one would likely be experiencing some tremendous back pain after a short while. So, if you're some kind of masochist that gets off on a terrible night's sleep, then this might be the "mattress" for you. Or maybe if you stacked one on top of another you might have the support of an actual futon mattress, but I'll be damned if I'm buying another one of these items just to make it right. D & D, if you're reading this, I'd be happy to change by low/negative review if you're willing to send another "mattress" my way, so that this item can be slept on, if not, no hard feelings. I'll just take my business elsewhere in the future. Thanks for reading. ... show more
