  • Brings out the woody notes of my D-28.
Solid product. It brings our a woody, low-key tone in my acoustic guitars that other picks don't. Other picks I've played, including some that cost $40 each, give a more bright or 'clackety' sound when compared to these picks. These pics action is really smooth and emphasizes the sound of the guitar over the sound of a pic. ... show more

  • Revised opinion, takes practice
When I first got these picks, I gave them a bad review. I had no experience with pick this rounded on the edge and have changed my mind. For those used to a sharp edged pick (stiff or thin) this may feel wrong. A sharp edge produces a sound more easily and a stiff pick is more precise (with a stiff pick, the player has a better feel for when the pick leaves the string so timing is better). But to use this pick, I had to learn to hold it differently. I had to hold it looser and let it wobble slightly in my hand as it moved the rounded edge across the strings. It produced a less brassy sound than my sharp edged picks, and seemed muted or dull. However, once I got the hang of the looser hold, I found I could easily control volume in my instrument, which was much more difficult with a sharp edged pick. Holding the pick tighter means I have to press harder to get a sound from the stings and the sound is louder. Holding the pick looser means I don't have to press so hard and the sound is softer. This pick did change the tone of my instrument. I play these on a Cumbus Mandolin, 23", Light - Mid-East and I don't know how they will affect my wooden mandolin (I am away from home). But on my metallic resonator instrument, the sound was less tinny/brassy, more bell-like and more mellow. It sounds much more like a mandolin and less like a banjo. I gave this four instead of five because right now I prefer the Dunlop Jazz III Pick 6-Pack, Black Stiffo, 1.38mm (black). These have the same rounded edge but have just a slight point on the tip. ... show more

  • great cheap plectrum
when you first time received the plectrum, makes sure you take all of them out from the packaging and let it air out the chemical. I've used it out the bag and the plectrum was slightly wet and smells like there is some chemical left over, and it sounded muffled, the note sounds muddy and dark, can't get the treble strings to ring. almost returned the whole pack, but then again, I get the idea to let all the plectrum out from the packaging and let it sit there overnight. Next day comes, and I give the plectrum another try before I decided to return it, and then the magic happens. it sounds great, chords is warm, and there is slight note separation that is nice, and the single note just has enough brightness to it that is pleasant. I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of this plectrum is beside the size and better grip, is, that all 3 sides are all equal, so if you wore out one of the sides, you just flip the plectrum side. One plectrum is like having 3 plectra in one. highly recommended. ... show more

  • Performed as others said
Love the big pick. Fits in finger well, good sound from the pick

  • The pick I use
I bought this as an add-on purchase at a great price when I bought a gig bag for my mandolin. I thought the last thing I needed was another pick, but I figured why not for the great price. I have been using the pick exclusively now for about 2 months and I like it. There is not a lot of grip, but the volume is adequate and it doesn't dig in to the strings too terribly bad. I've been holding off purchasing a Blue Chip pick, but that will be my next pick buy. I'll be interested to see what a $35 pick feels/sounds like compared to these Pro Plec picks. ... show more

  • A bit more to the "point," nice, 3 in 1
A bit more of a point than the 385, which is also good, but I think I like this better. And you do get "3 picks in 1" - just rotate to get a fresh picking surface.

  • Warped and Why the Matte Finish Now?!
I have used these picks on mandolin for years and love them—way less expensive than high-end boutique picks—but the last dozen I bought in April 2022 were mostly warped and all of a sudden they have a matte finish that I find less appealing and more slippery than the traditional finish. What's up D'Andrea? I also recently bought the more rounded 358 shape and the entire dozen were warped so I sent them back for replacement. We shall see... ... show more
