We recently bought an enclosed utility trailer with a ramp door on the back. Closing it requires 2 locks on either side and has somewhat of a wide span in order to securely lock. Didn’t want a wimpy regular lock that someone up to no good could simply take a bolt cutters to. The locking mechanism isn’t anything I’ve ever come across before. To open you continuously turn the key counterclockwise expanding the chrome pin (bolt), separating it from the main body (black part). This ingenious idea allows the locks to span varied widths and the 2 pack combo was super economical not to mention environmentally friendlier if you needed 2 in the first place. The quality seems very sturdy and the overall thickness gives a great sense of security which is usually anyone’s #1 requirement when purchasing a lock. Can’t comment on longevity yet considering we just purchased them but fingers are crossed.

This is about as solid as a hitch lock of this type could be. There are two solid black jaws joined by a ~1/2 inch silver rod, and a 1/4 in locking pin that goes through the safety pin hole. There is very little free space between the jaws and the hitch itself. It would be difficult to cut any part of the lock with a grinder. Though it would be fairly easy to cut through the hitch itself. There is no locking action as such. The key acts as a screwdriver that widens the space between the jaws and allows one jaw to be rotated so the locking pin can be removed. Simple but unexpected. The downside is that the key must turn through several revolutions — annoying if the key is one of several on your key ring
