This item is not as advertised.....bought to use at a gate where elec fencing is, so could move hot wire when gate needed to be opened....1st time to use...line will not retract back, so now have hot wire laying on ground. Poor design or defective don't know, BUT definitely not worth the money. Very disappointed ... show more

This is a review of a free product: Most farm inventions are solutions looking for a problem, but this retractable gate handle with braided wire rope is truly innovative. Normally, on opening an electric fence, one has to drag the wire back by the handle and hook it up on the fence line so it is out of the way. And hope that your animals or farm equipment does not get tangled in the wire, pulling it off the fence causing time consuming fence repairs. but from first install, this allows me to run the electric fence in front of the gates to continue the loop and as I need to open gates it is so quick and easy to just let it retract into the spool housing and I never have to worry about losing the wire in tall pasture grass or it getting tangled in equipment. I will be purchasing more of these to install at every gate ... show more

Just yesterday I had to fix a gate and I had to turn off the electric fence, unhook the handle that takes the hot wire across the gate, and laboriously drag the wire out of the way, then try to figure out a way to hook the handle up so that it holds the wire out of the way so horses don't run through, catch the wire, and pull down a whole section of fencing. This type of gate setup is genius! You can just unhook the gate, and let the wire roll back into the case. No need to turn off gate and turn it back on, and NO risk of animals (or people!) getting caught in the loop of wire. Definitely 5 stars! ... show more

I use a lot of electric fencing. I have just always had to lay the gate on the ground to open it. This is so much better! No more having to fight the wind to get the fencing out of the opening. No more scared horses looking at the fencing on the ground. Now, they walk through calmly because the gate has retracted all of the wire. So happy that I got this! ... show more

I use an electric fence to keep deer out of my garden. In the past I always had trouble with making a gate. I used a wire with a spring but it always ended up with a bunch of twisted wire that I couldn't control. With this I can control the gate and just roll it up into the canister. It maintains spring tension so the gate stays in place. The rope has wire embedded in it to make the electrical circuit complete. This product is awesome.
