My initial thoughts...."These look like letter openers"! My next thought..."Why didn't I think of that"!?? Bottom line...they pretty much can be used interchangeably with letter openers. But they also work very well for removing knotted hair masses. They are safer than scissors because the blade is not exposed, which is helpful when dealing with highly reactive pets. Care should be taken, however, to not pull the skin when using these. I always try to keep my fingers between the skin and the blade, to ensure that skin is never inadvertently pulled into the path of the blade. It's nice that they are sold in a 5 pack...I put one with my grooming tools, one by my bathing area, one in my letter drawer, one is reserved for opening boxes, and I have a spare in case I break one or the blade gets dull.

This would be better marketed as a letter opener. I used it on my cat last night and the first matt came out fine, but the second one was a little bigger and my cat ran away after that one. I then realized the club of fur had skin on it, and it had cut a quarter sized hole on his back. I had to take him to the emergency room for stitches and it cost about $850. If you're having trouble with your cat getting tangled fur, I recommend a $100 grooming appointment to this, it could save you a lot of money.

These look a lot like letter openers, and that's probably what they're really intended for. However, I did try this on my cat who is prone to mats and it worked well. Be careful to make sure you are only cutting through the tangled fur and not the skin!!!

These have a protected blade with a pointed plastic guide that can get underneath a difficult hair mat and gently guide the tool through the mat to help break it apart. It's a great idea, and it works to reduce a large mat down to the point where you can run a brush or detangling comb through it to deconstruct the mat. I was glad to get 5 in the package because once the blade inside becomes duller, it won't be usable anymore. However, the one I have used has worked well and continues to hold up. As will all sharp tools that get near a pet's skin, use strategically and with care.

Careful use with a cat who wants to be groomed lets you remove knots easily and quickly. You can also easily slit open letters with these.

I used this on my cat and it easily removed his large knot and a large chunk of flesh. Be very careful. I do not recommend this product.

This comb device is great for removing hair knots, loosening tangled hair, or cutting off matted hair. The device is razor sharp and does a nice, clean cut on unwanted pet hair complications. I also find this device handy with opening envelopes. Just slide it along the envelope's sealed edge and it easily cuts it open.
