1. Packaging was great. Given the size and weight, I was expecting some dings in the box. Upon inspection, nothing made it to the planer. 2. Only assembly required was to put on crank handle and dust cover. 3. I was expecting to have to clean off excess oil/grease before I could use it. None was to be seen anywhere. Nice clean machine. 4. Usually you have too fool around with adjusting the table/bed to try and eliminate snipe. It was good to go right out of the box. Ran pine through and the snipe was so minimal that I had to hold it up to the light to see it the first run and then it was gone the second. Ran a couple of cutting boards made of walnut and maple. It did not hesitate and left me with ZERO snipe. Bye bye planing sled! 5. Noise level was surprising. Running material through is quieter than when my previous two machines were just turned on. 6. Crank adjustments are extremely smooth. No hesitation or popping or jumping. 7. Spiral head vs blades is a no brainer. Just shaves the wood down and came out smoother than a baby’s behind. I’m sure something will come up later but I am happier with this machine than I was my last two combined. Give it a few months and if it is still as smooth, I’ll probably end up with more of their equipment. ... show more

    • Works well, still have a bit of snipe I need to tune out
Shipped quicky, easy set up. Works really well, very nice finish on the slowest setting. Ive been getting some snipe I need to tune out a bit, but putting sacrificial boards before and after saves the boards. Works incredibly well with pine, but harder woods like maple and walnut get a bit of chipping, nothing a little bit of sanding wont fix. ... show more

This thing eats wood for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 2nd dinner. It leaves the wood all silky and smooth when doing a slower finishing pass. Make sure to give all the button head cap screws a good once-over before use. A loose chassis can give you inaccurate cuts. The dust collection port adapter is a little meh, but still sucks. Had a thickness plainer with tool steel blades, what a big difference. This spiral caribe cutter cuts like butter and a very nice finish. My old one cannot compare.     • Stopped working within 24 hours and difficult to get refund
Was really excited try out this planer. Ordered it, got it quick, easy to set up. Started planning boards and it stopped turning on the next morning. Could not get it to work. Returned it right away to refund my money and bought a DeWalt 2 speed instead. It's been two weeks and I'm still waiting for my refund, which is completely unacceptable. ... show more

    • A few well-know planers are re-branded Cutech one of the few spirals with tungsten inserts.
The spiral cutters (these are NOT helical) do a fine job on hardwood like red oak and softwood like pine. Smooth surfacing, minimal sniping (I can see it but can barely feel it). Also, this 4800H is one of the least expensive ones to include tungsten inserts. Most others are extra expense.

    • Great bang for the buck
I purchased this to replace a craftsman that just couldn't handle hardwood. This planer on the other hand can do oak, maple, walnut ECT without breaking a sweat. Planned 12" wide white oak all day and carbide inserts are still sharp. Has very little snipe if you're taking a sensible amount off. Leaves a great finish. Dust collection (at least with my dustopper) isn't great. ... show more
