My 7 1/2 year old daughter has been playing with model magic since she was 3. I think I have bought between 25-30lbs of it over the years. It is usually cheapest to buy from the craft store in 2lb buckets with a 50% off coupon, however, when I purchased this classpack it was on sale and ended up cheaper. The multi-color classpack is the way to go if you can get a deal on it. It doesn't dry out as fast as the 2lb bucket because you are only opening small amounts at the time. Also, it is perfect for parties or playdates, since it is already divided up into small quantities. It is also great for travel or bringing to a restaurant to keep kids entertained - just throw a few packs in your bag. My daughter will play with this for hours. We actually threw out all of our play-doh and only buy model magic because it does not make a mess, doesn't crumble, and dries nicer. Model magic works well with most play-doh playsets, with one exception - it does not work with any type of extruding tool. It gets stuck every time we have tried to extrude it. I attached a few pictures of our recent creations. You can easily stick gems, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, sequins, and feathers into your model magic creations. Also, with this primary color pack, you can make any color you want. Here are some tips: If you can't get something to stick to model magic, like googly eyes, wait until it dries then glue it on. If you are making a large animal or figure, like a snowman, use foil for the main structure. Then cover the foil with the model magic. You will save model magic and it will dry faster. To dry model magic, place on a paper plate. Every day or so, turn the model magic creation over, so each side gets a chance to dry. It dries very lightweight. If you plan to make handprints or footprints, you will need to press the hand or foot into the clay very firmly to get a well defined print. We have used it for prints, but it does require patience. Finally, once dry, never place directly on any surface to display without something under it. Sometimes, humidity will make it stick to the surface leaving a hard to remove residue behind. So fun!

These are always a win in this house. I've purchased them several times and have never had any issues with any of them popping and drying out ahead of time. One package is enough for an average creation. They take a while to dry, especially if they're thick. They will stay somewhat, they won't harden like normal clay. They aren't great to color on, which is probably the only draw back. It's not messy at all, in fact I often throw a few in my back to keep my kids busy while we're out and about. Best clay alternative for home and school alike

I would give this a thousand stars if I could. I am an elementary STEAM teacher and I incorporate projects using model magic as often as I can. There is zero mess, the individual packets make portioning so easy, you can change the color by using markers you already have on hand, it’s clean enough to use for kindergarteners but still super fun for my older students, it dries well (although I like to use a clay sealant for a nicer finish), and overall just the best. Got this for my Art one class for 9th grade and it worked out perfectly. This was used for adding to Funko pop dolls students created for a sculpture character assignment. This covered all three of my classes plus extra. I recommend it for large classes and the students enjoyed it.

My kids really love arts & crafts, and have recently gotten into the wonderful world of Model Magic. This pack is a great option for color variety, especially for kids who want to make several small sculptures, or larger super colorful pieces. There are 30 (1 oz) individual packages in total, with 15 different colors. You will get 2 pouches of each color: Red Orange Yellow Dandelion Green Yellow-green Blue Cerulean Indigo Lavendar Raspberry Earthtone Terra Cotta Black White The pros: 15 colors to choose from. Each pouch has the color & name on it, so there aren't any surprises when opening. Low odor. We haven't had any issue with staining. It is light weight and not very sticky. Cons: There is no way to reseal the pouches once they are opened, so its either use it or lose it. Alternatively, you could try and re-seal in a different container, but I find that it dries out way faster this way. If the manufacturer included seal function on the pouches, it would have been a 5 star for us. In all, we have had a lot of fun with this variety pack of Model Magic, and I am glad we purchased it. ... show more
