Great filter for a terrific Humidifier!

This is our fourth Crane humidifier. The first 2 were the Drop shape, and while we loved them, the maintenance was high because of our hard water. They each lasted 15-18 months, save for a 4-month summer reprieve. I started using a Protec ball but didnt feel like they did anything, so stopped buying them. We think the mineral build-up is what caused their demise, and I take full blame for not cleaning them as often as instructed. Dust happens, especially in our home with forced-air heat, so I didn't purchase the cartridge for white dust reduction as much as humidifier maintenance support. I have had the Dragon and filter for about 5 weeks now, and the demineralization cartridge causes a noticeable difference in the unit. The water tank and reservoir have significantly less cleaning required - as in I've only cleaned it once, and not because the water had brown build-up but because I realized it was due for a vinegar rinse. I do think we've had a dust reduction but I couldn't attribute it completely to the humidifier cartridge because we also started using a more "advanced" furnace filter. I also can't tell if the filter causes less water to be misted into the air as the tank seems smaller than our former drop-shape tank even though one fill lasts the dragon through at least two full nights (medium powere 8pm-7am, low output or off rest of day). I say 5-stars because I'm lazy and I like not having to clean the humidifiers that are a necissity in our house at least 6-months a year.     • Works as Expected
We almost didn't buy these based on the reviews, but I'm glad we did. We have noticed a reduction in the mineral dust the humidifiers leave behind (we run two Crane drop humidifiers in one bedroom). We purchased these filters and new humidifiers in 2018, so not sure if Crane has redesigned anything that would negate the complaints in the earlier reviews, but they work for us. We have well water and a whole house water purification system, and using these, it takes several days to see any mineral dust on the furniture, whereas previous years in only took a day or two (depending, it seemed, on the age of the humidifier). We soak the filters as recommended, the pre-soak gets the orange out, and we haven't seen orange again. Also, we've used these for about a month and haven't had the issue with the humidifiers turning off at night. We also run our humidifiers morning and night, nearly 24 hours, and haven't had to "dry out" the filters as some reviewers were told. So far, we have no complaints or regrets. My biggest concern was that we were breathing too much "dust" and these are noticeably helping with that. We will purchase again. ... show more

Really does nothing to reduce white dust. Thought I would try these filters specifically because buying and lugging jugs of distilled water is getting old. I use the humidifier to keep a 360 square foot music area at about 40% humidity in the winter here in the North. After only a couple days there was white dust on everything again and after 15 days threw the filter away went back to distilled water. Disappointing could not return 2 unused filters. ... show more
