  • Great set of sockets and nicer quality than competing brands at a similar price.
Style: 81 Piece Set
I don't need to hash through all the details of this set because it's all provided in the product listing. What I want to talk about is why you should or should not purchase it and what to expect when you use it. I've used Craftsman tools for over 40 years and with the exception of a couple of generations of designs they keep getting better. I currently have several generations of sockets and socket wrenches and these are certainly the best quality in both design and materials. The handle design is comfortable and the ratchet switch is low profile and easy to use. The button to release the sockets is also low profile but also easy and comfortable to press. The action of the ratchet requires a much smaller degree of swing than previous ratchet version so getting into those tight places is easier than ever. The sockets are strong and don't feel at all frail like a cheap set and the chrome is not the type that will flake off like those sets. It is a smoked chrome and looks very nice. With the exception the case being several times larger than it needs to be, this is an excellent set of sockets that I recommend to anyone, even a professional. ... show more

  • Excellent. I recommend using a pair of pliers to remove them from the case.
Style: 51 Piece Set
This is an excellent socket set! I have loved Craftsman ratchets and sockets for years. They continue to get better and better. This particular Craftsman socket set I really like because it has very fine teeth on the ratchets. In case you don't know what I mean by teeth on the ratchet, I'm talking about the internal gears inside of the ratchet. They are so fine that I barely have to twist the ratchet in order to hear a click. With the teeth on the ratchet being this fine, it allows for minimal over torquing. While this socket set is not a huge set of various sizrs, it does contain the most basic SAE and metric sockets needed for a majority of repairs on vehicles, household repairs like lag bolts for TV's and other basic mechanical applications. One thing I want to make sure to mention though is that the ratchet is very heavy and a little bulky. I like the heaviness of the ratchet because I can torque with it and I don't have to worry about it getting damaged easily. As far as the bulkiness of the ratchet, just don't plan on getting into very tight spaces with this ratchet. There's only one thing about this socket set that I didn't really like it first. I didn't like that the sockets are so difficult to remove from the case. They are so difficult to remove, in fact, that I would recommend getting a pair of pliers just to remove the sockets from the case. After some initial thought, I realized that it's actually a good idea that the sockets fit this tight into the case because it keeps them from falling out and getting lost. Even though I don't like having to take the extra time to pull the sockets out of the case, I would rather take the extra time to do this then end up with a lost socket. As someone who does mechanic work multiple times a week as a hobby and professionally, I definitely recommend this socket set. ... show more

  • Superior Design – Flank Gripping – Bargain for this Craftsman quality and assortment
Style: 51 Piece Set
Superior Design – Flank Gripping – Heavy Duty Sockets AND Ratchet – Bargain for this Craftsman quality and assortment with Flare Drive Sockets This set certainly lives up to the superior quality products Craftsman brand name. However, I took off one Star Rating point because of a missing critical commonly used deep socket. For some unimaginable reason this set includes the short size 11mm socket but DOES NOT have the 11mm Deep Socket. I use the 11mm Deep Socket size often. So I will have to dig a hole in the box for a space for me to add an 11mm Deep Socket. Yippee, almost complete Metric & SAE short and deep sockets AND lots of bits. The ½” drive ratchet is very smooth operating with a very short throw with many ratchet teeth. The ratchet has the superior top button detent ball release to keep your sockets more securely attached. The sockets, ratchet, extension, and screw driver bits do come in a nice fitted blow molded box with stronger pin hinges and two secure latches. I have a lot of heavy duty “professional mechanics only” name brand sockets like Proto, SnapOn, Mac Tools, and etc. that I have been using for decades to make a lot of money. However, these are “old school” design with sharp angle corners in the 6 point sockets. Of course, a 6 point socket grips much better than a 12 point socket such that a 6 point socket is the go to tool for tight frozen fasteners. This wonderful new design of a 6 point socket has radiused inside socket corners instead of the old school sharp angle corners. Unfortunately, this superior design does not have a rigorously defined name. Some of the names are “side gripping”, “flank gripping”, or simply “radiused inside corner” sockets. A 12 point socket will round over the 6 corners of a stuck fastener making it almost impossible to remove. To save your bacon you then use one of these superior new design radius ed inside corner sockets like these to break loose the stuck bolt with the rounded corners. Or better for high torque applications always use this new kind of inside radiused corner socket to NOT round over the fastener corners in the first place. To better explain this superior design, I have attached some drawings to show the twisting torque force being applied to the side flanks of the fastener. The concept is that radiused corners in the socket opening allow the socket inside sides, and not the sharp angle corners, to apply force to a fastener's flat sides, rather than the fastener’s corners to prevent ruined fastener corner Round-Off problems. I sure wish I had a tool box full of these new fangled superior design sockets when I first started out. ... show more
