  • literally doubled my fps in every single game I play, tripled in e-sports titles
Style: Desktop Processor
honestly, I still catch flak online for stating my title. "no way you doubled your fps, that's not how computers work" as these people shake their fist at their monitor as if they matter. I went from a 3950x with 32gb ddr4 3600 ram and 6900xt to this 7700x with ddr5 6000 with the same 6900xt.... mind you games set at MAX SETTINGS (none of this "but muh medium preset" garbage) in valorant, I went from 250fps minimum to 450fps minimum (yes, that is literally my minimum. it never goes below these numbers). in modern warfare 2 and warzone 2, I used to get 90fps and now I get 180fps. in hunt showdown, I used to get 80fps and now I get 180fps. in world of warcraft I used to get 250-300fps now I get 350-500fps. in fallout 4, i would get the solid 60 before, but going to diamond city with everything maxed out, the cpu took a dumb and would drop in fps and feel sluggish. now with the 7700x i go to diamond city and it doesn't even hickup. shame the load times are slow, which don't take advantage of my nvme drives. #old_games_am_i_right? rust, man there is a big one. i would barely get 60fps on max settings (literally max) and now I get 150 no sweat. overwatch I went from 150fps to 300fps. as you can see, these are my exact numbers. you can CHOOSE not to believe me. I dont care.... I see them every day when I am gaming. windows feels way snappier than it used to. my file system transfers from drive to drive are snappier and faster too. overall everything is better now. ive had ZERO issues with my setup. my motherboard is up to date bios wise, and my drivers are up to date.... shame the new amd gpus seem to lackluster. this whole "not competing vs nvidia's fourty90" is just, well its crap is what it is. amd needs to stop playing the underdog card and just beat nvidia anyway they can. im so tired of amd shooting for less than perfection. but that's their gpu side holding back. their cpu side is on full attack mode and i love it. can't wait to get my hands on the 7800x3d come next year. ... show more

  • Poorly priced and runs hot
Style: Desktop Processor
There's no doubt this is a good CPU, but at the list price of $399 it doesn't really make sense to buy if you can get the 7800X3D for only $50 more. Granted, this is usually available for closer to $340, but at that point you may as well get the 7700 non-X which is far more efficient and comes with a cooler (very nice bonus if you don't already have one). I was able to get mine for $300 which is the only reason I went for the hotter 105W TDP, but for any extended multi-core tasks I will switch to eco-mode which drops it to a 65W TDP with minimal loss in performance. I'm using a Noctua NH-D14 which is admittedly a bit old, but at the stock configuration reaches the 95°C thermal limit pretty quickly. I understand it is designed to work at this temperature just fine, but I just feel more comfortable without all that excess heat being generated. ... show more

  • Great Gaming CPU

Great CPU for a full upgrade path. As long as you can find a decent priced mobo and invest in quality DDR5

  • Happy with my choice
Style: Desktop Processor
I debated a bit between upgrading to a 13th gen intel, or this new AMD platform. Looked at all the benchmarks, and they are actually really close, with intel having a slight edge. In reality, you probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference in most scenarios. I decided to go with AM5 and the 7700x because it's a brand new platform and socket, which means that the future generations of AMD CPUs will be using this platform, and In a few years, I'll be able to upgrade to a newer gen CPU without having to change out my motherboard. (AM3 lasted over 6 years). I saw another reviewer complaining about the price of motherboards, but I got the new Asus Tuf gaming B650+ with DDR5 support for $220, which isn't bad at all. the X670 boards considerably more $$, but unless you are building a monster rig, you don't need one. The 650 boards just came out though, so that may be why. Also got a basic 240mm AIO water cooler, and all put together, inside my desk cabinet, I am seeing temps around 30-35c at idle, and around 35-45 doing desktop things like email and browsing the web. Fired up a game (shatterline), and max temp I saw was 82c. well below the 90-95c some people reported, but maybe that's for the 7900 cpus? the system feels great, and should last me quite some time with an upgrade path on the AM5 platform that still has a long way to go. for reference, I came from a 4th gen intel platform I originally built in like 2013 or so. so this is a pretty huge upgrade! ... show more

  • Solid upgrade
Style: Desktop Processor
If you're in the place to be able to invest in future upgrade path but still on a budget this is a pretty decent processor. Not a huge fan of integrated graphics and the increase heat that brings but it's a considerable upgrade from my 2700x so I'm happy. Currently have it under an NH-D15 and I can definitely tell it's hitting its upper threshold as far as keeping it cool underload but functions just fine for gaming and light streaming. ... show more
