I believe the lenses were designed for use on the water. They block reflection. I went on a boat cruise on a vacation in the Caribbean and the whole crew was wearing Costas! First time I put them on I was amazed. Colors were so bright and everything popped out and seemed 3-D. I have another pair that I bought five years ago. They are two tone and very stylish. I don’t take very good care of my sunglasses. I just take them off and throw them in the cupholder in the car. So far even the old ones are in perfect shape and no scratches on the lenses.
