First of all, I run a Makita corded planer as my typical go to hand planer. The Makita is about $200+ or about 3x more than this cordless Bigheimer planer. There are some fit and finish differences between them. This is not a $200+ planer, but at it price point of about $60, what it does it does well. The Dewalt batteries fit perfectly. The depth/cut adjustment does what it needs to. It does not provide at "0" adjustment. This means that you may not know how far above the surface you are based on the dial. All the adjustment readings are in mm. Just something to be aware of. There are no indents for the adjustments. It is a smooth dial change. The motor is quite. I used it on pine and had plenty of power. I needed to trim a bunch of floor joist. I ran it over a few knots, similar to other planers, a little bogging but very minor. The motor stops quickly after releasing the trigger. The planer blade that came with appear to be of a lower quality. I noticed some wear on the blades after light usage. I tried to get a picture of the wear. I believe that the replacement blade would be similar to DeWalt D26676 planer. ... show more

    • Safety features are a huge plus
It feels very solid in the hand, and the 3-1/4 inch width is perfect for most of my projects. I’ve used it to chamfer some table edges and it left a clean, professional look. It’s much quieter than my old corded planer too. Very happy with this purchase.
