  • CoolerMaster MasterAir MA410M -- great RGB cooler with several caveats
Color: MA410M ARGB Style: 4 HeatPipes
The media could not be loaded. As long as you know what you're in for, the MA410M is a gorgeous, quiet air cooler. But it takes a lot of (mostly software) work to go beyond the RGB basics. 1) The MA410M is huge and heavy, as expected. It takes work to clamp this beast to the motherboard, and like many other reviewers, I needed to remove the fans from the heatsink to do so. Make sure this will fit in your case! Even in my Hyte Y60, I couldn't believe the cooler only cleared the inside of the case glass by 2 mm. The front fan didn't clear my RAM (Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL), so I had to dremel a millimeter's worth of material off two of the fan corners to get the fan to fit. 2) CoolerMaster's MasterPlus+ control software can work with this unit, but only after updating the included controller's firmware, which requires finding a (not included) mini-USB to USB cable to connect the unit. CoolerMaster's tech support insisted (multiple times) I needed to buy a different CoolerMaster controller, but that's not true. 3) Like most RGB software, MasterPlus+ does a couple of things well (in this specific case, gradient effects), and the rest of the features and interface need refinement. MasterPlus+ will not work without using a CoolerMaster controller. 4) The MA410M boasts "28 addressable LEDS". While technically true, CoolerMaster apparently wired them up as pairs along the sides (not the fan facing sides, so that's good), and further wired up the first two pairs of a given side, closest to the tunnel window. At the beginning of the video, see how the first two circles in the tube both light up together, and then each circle lights up one at a time as the effect moves down the tube? In essence, this means the MA410M has only 12 addressable sets of LEDs -- not 14, and not 28, even though there are indeed 28 LEDs. Remember that for whichever software you use to control the RGB of the MA410M. I would have liked more granular control over the LEDs, but it's not a big deal. I'd love to know why CoolerMaster chose this strange approach. Doing anything beyond basic RGB with this cooler took far more time than the rest of my RGB setup combined, and I ended up getting deep into the weeds with SignalRGB to get the effects I wanted. CoolerMaster's support, while quick (less than 24 hours to respond each time), didn't understand their own product. I also replaced CoolerMaster's included RGB controller with a Razer controller since I needed the extra controller ports and decided against using MasterPlus+ software. The MA410M works fine with other 3-pin aRGB controllers, including motherboard aRGB headers. While it took a ton of work to figure out and unlock the potential of the RGB in the MA410M, let's be honest -- we get this cooler for the appearance. CoolerMaster made a fantastic looking, well-functioning air cooler. CoolerMaster's software, documentation, and support cost me untold hours of labor, and I talked myself into giving a four star review rather than just the three stars I wanted. The physical cooler itself? A five star creation. ... show more

  • Fantastic - checks all of my boxes
Color: MA620M ARGB Style: 6 Heat Pipes
I suspect that like most people looking at the MA620M, I was using the Wraith Prism to cool my Ryzen, and while it's a great stock cooler, it's definitely not the best air cooling solution out there. And it's rather noisy. As someone who prefers using air, I started looking at the best alternatives, and this one checked a lot of the boxes I had. I wanted a quiet, solidly-performing air solution that looked good, or at least wouldn't look bad. That is precisely what this cooler is. As for the looks, I personally think that this is the best-looking air cooler out there. It just looks... awesome. And it looks as good in person as you hope it will. It is a 10/10 on looks. hands down. The RGB has sleek lines, and isn't in-your-face like so many others. I have been backing off from RGB in my builds lately and this is just the right amount, I think. Size... It's big. Cooler height is listed as 165mm, and that appears to be correct. My Lian Li Lancool II case has a cooler clearance of 175mm, and the cooler comes about 1 cm from the glass. Check your case's clearance before ordering this, as clearance can be an issue with big coolers like this. As tall as it is, though, it doesn't seem overly bulky, and all RAM and nearby headers are accessible. So it's tall, but not particularly bulky otherwise. Noise... what noise? In all of my testing, this thing has been very, very quiet. At idle, I can't hear it. While doing a stress test, I can barely hear it if I put my head up to the case. While gaming I can't hear it at all over the GPU fan noise. I am 100% happy on the noise levels relative to the Prism. Performance... It's good. I'd say it isn't the best out there, but it is good and definitely an improvement over the Prism. I am running a stock Ryzen 7 3700X on a MSI X570 Gaming Plus Wifi. At idle it's running around 40 C. While running CPU-Z stress test for 20 minutes, it's topping out at 70.5 C. While gaming (Borderlands 3 for 30 minutes) it's capped at 60 C. These temps are all 5-10 degrees C lower than i was getting with the Prism. All while running silently and looking good while doing it. Pretty good, not quite great, but good enough for what I want to do. I would feel 100% confident overclocking with this cooler, which I'll likely do in the future. Although to be honest, with PBO enabled on these Ryzen chips, that's probably not necessary or even really worth it... But I think that if you choose to do so, this cooler will give you some headroom. As for installation, I don't get why anyone would have a problem with this. The instructions are very clear, although I didn't even need to use them. Took me 15 minutes and I didn't have to remove my motherboard, although if you can't access the back of your board inside the case you will have to remove it. The baseplate is loose as other reviewers have mentioned, but it tightens up when you actually mount the tower, so that's normal. All in all, installation was a breeze - possibly the easiest I've ever installed. I did not use the included RGB controller but I can say that I can control and sync through MSI Dragon Center (Mystic Light), so it should work through whatever software your board uses. So to conclude, I am 100% satisfied with this cooler. It may not be the best performer in this class, but it performs well with zero noise and looks very good doing it. Is it worth $100? Well that's up to the buyer, for to me it's worth it. I don;t regret getting this over some of the others in this class I was looking at. If you're only after the best performance per dollar, look elsewhere. But if you want a good balance in performance, noise, and appearance, this one does the trick. ... show more

  • Make sure you have a WIDE case
Color: MA610P ARGB Style: 6 Heat Pipes
I used to run a water CPU cooler but that ended up breaking on me so I opted for a more reliable air fan CPU cooler. I wanted one with a dual-fan and heat sink solution, but also had some color and style to match my tower aesthetic. This was perfect. Temp runs about 30C on ambient and 50C under load of 144 fps max setting games. Fan rarely needs to tick up to audible levels but when it does the temp shoots back down. I am able to balance noise with performance to get the best of both for what games I play. You could probably use this to overclock, but I myself do not. Just for fun I manually put the fan RPMs to max and watched my CPU under load shoot down about -15C from where it was. Awesome fan, but it's a b**** to install. Spring loaded mount is very difficult to screw on. But once that sucker is on, it is NOT going anywhere. ... show more
