Description

The Concert and Contest Collection for Eb Alto Saxophone is a top-rated solo book from the Rubank Educational Library, featuring a superb variety of classical and contest solos curated for saxophonists. Edited by Himie Voxman, this collection is widely recognized by teachers, students, and professionals as an essential resource for solo performances, recitals, and state music contests. This book includes a carefully selected repertoire of classical pieces from renowned composers such as Mozart, Handel, Haydn, and Gretchaninoff, offering technical challenges and expressive opportunities for saxophonists at levels 3-4 (intermediate to advanced). Many of these solos are featured on all-state and solo/ensemble contest lists, making this a trusted selection for competition preparation. Each piece in this collection is designed to help saxophonists refine tone, articulation, and musical interpretation while developing the skills needed for professional-level performance. The book provides a progressive structure, allowing students to build confidence and technique as they work through expressive melodies, intricate phrasing, and technical runs. Ideal for private lessons, classroom instruction, and independent study, this solo book is a must-have for saxophonists aiming to expand their repertoire and prepare for auditions, performances, and competitions. Songs Included: At the Hearth Evening Waltz Minuet from Haffner Music Mélodie Canzonetta and Giga Sonatina from Trio V Andante and Allegro Largo and Allegro from Sonata VI Élégie Introduction and Rondo Recitative and Allegro Fantaisie Mauresque Concertante First Concertino Read more

  • Great Collection
This is a great collection of solos of varying styles and difficulty. I use it and the CD with several of my private students. I encourage them to put the CD on their MP3 players so that they can listen to the artists perform and to practice with the accompaniment whether they use a live pianist or not. ... show more

  • *The* audition book for alto sax, but make sure you're getting the right version
Format: Paperback
*The* standard audition book for alto sax in my daughter's school district. One thing to watch out for -- there are two different versions of the book, as well as two CDs: 1. The "solo" version (which contains *only* the saxophone part) 2. The "piano accompaniment" version (which contains the piano accompaniment, and the saxophone part written above the piano part) 3. The performance/accompaniment CD 4. The combined solo and performance/accompaniment CD The way you can tell which version you are buying is by looking at the lower left-hand corner of the front cover under the heading PUBLISHED IN FOUR PARTS. There is an arrow pointing to the version you are getting. I own both the solo version and the accompaniment version -- although the piano accompaniment version contains the alto sax solo part, my daughter finds it next to impossible to play from that book. (There are three staffs, only one of which is the alto sax part. The alto sax part is written in smaller notes and is spread over several pages. In the solo book, most if not all of the pieces fit on a single page.) If you're on the fence about whether to buy the book instead of photocopying the piece(s) you need -- at one audition my daughter was told that she was not allowed to play from a photocopy unless she could show that she also owned a copy of the actual book. ... show more

Good idea, good resource material. Rubank should have picked another saxophonist to record the solos.
