  • Solidly Built - Functional - Educational
Our microscope and accessories came with a zippered case that holds the unit and accessories. My two young home-schooled grandchildren love it! What a joy to see them study and investigate God’s creation on a microscopic level! In addition to the 10 pre-made slides that came with our microscope, they also enjoy making their own slides. A drop of creek water looks like a world of living organisms under the 40X - 2000X magnification. You can also clearly see the cell wall structures of pieces of plants and even vegetables! There are lots of accessories included … tweezers, pipette, gauze, and cleaning cloth. The phone adapter is a real bonus to save photos of what is on the slides. The instructions are clear and informative and explain the workings of the unit as well as how to prepare the slides. The image quality is crystal clear, making this a wonderful gift for the young explorer(s) in your life. ... show more

  • The scope that I wish I could've had when I was young
This device seems to land right where it needs to be as a low cost tool, not a high cost toy. The general operation is thus: There is a three mode switch for lighting; off, beneath, and stage. The stage light works well except in the highest magnification where the small focal length causes the 40× optic to block the stage light, which cannot really be helped. Magnification is a multiplicative operation with 4× 10× and 40× at the stage, 10× and 25× eyepieces, and a 2× that the 10/25× combines with. This yields nominal magnifications of 40, 80, 100 two ways (4×25; 10×10), 200 two ways (4×2×25; 10×2×10), 250, 400, 500, 800, 1000, and 2000. I estimated the fields of view as starting from a diameter of 3½mm (4×10), and in the cases of 100× and 200×, the 4× objective gives wider FOV for the same nominal magnification. There is a diaphragm adjustment beneath the stage, but I didn't notice a significant difference between setting it at 4 or at 9, and mostly relied on the lamp brightness control. Which is one of the two MVP's in this device. The lamp is on a dial allowing control of brightness, and the focus knob is geared for coarse and then fight adjustment. Toy microscopes are a fright to deal with focus at high magnification due to the plastic flexing. This device is a tool, not a toy, and has the components you need to work without such headaches. As is expected, the scope comes with a typical slides and accessories kit, and does use quality material. I've seen toys step down to plastic slides. And a plastic accessory is where this kit falters. It comes with a plastic smartphone mount for screen observation, recording, and photography. And because it's flexible plastic, it's almost useless. It attaches to a smartphone well enough, but to then hang it from the eyepiece causes the weight of the phone to flex the plastic, making alignment a game of trial and error that you simply can't win. (I accidentally did it perfectly the first time, and then later tried twelve times to hit the perfect spot again and never could.) Furthermore, I couldn't get consistent focus and field of view on my smartphone. I felt like if I put the mount completely over the eyepiece it wasn't positioned right. If I pulled it halfway off it could rest on a tiny seam in the plastic that happened to be the right relief, but then I worried that it could fall from the microscope if bumped accidentally. For this reason, I don't have any reasonable sample photos to share. I think that this is a fine entry-level scope for a student or hobbyist who has gotten used to not driving the subject into the lenses and is ready for a tool without excessive investment. However, the usefulness of the device overall makes the smartphone adapter "feature" something that undermines the otherwise good sense of quality. ... show more

  • Amazing Instrument for Homeschooling
This microscope has been a fascinating addition to our home education tools. The microscope offers a magnification range from 40X to 2000X, which allows me to explore a wide variety of specimens in incredible detail with my son. The included microscope slides set is a great starter kit, providing a range of samples to examine right out of the box. The phone adapter is a particularly useful feature, enabling me to capture and save images to use in Powerpoints and projects later. The build quality of the microscope is solid, and the optics are clear and sharp, making it suitable for both beginners and more advanced users. Whether I’m using it for educational purposes with kids or for my own curiosity, the Sedumic microscope has proven to be a reliable and engaging tool for exploring the microscopic world. ... show more

  • Great Entry-Level Microscope with Room for Improvement
This microscope offers a solid entry-level option for both kids and adults interested in exploring the microscopic world. With a range of magnifications up to 2000X, it provides clear, detailed images suitable for educational purposes. The dual light sources (top and bottom) are handy for various observation needs. The included accessories, like the prepared slides and slide-making materials, are great for beginners. The build quality is commendable for the price, and the various power options (AA batteries, USB, or AC adapter) add convenience. However, the phone adapter included is less practical—it’s somewhat flimsy and tricky to align, which may be a downside if you're keen on capturing images through your phone. Overall, it’s a good choice for its price range, though it might not meet the needs of more advanced users or those looking for a robust phone mounting solution. ... show more

  • Great microscope set!
When I was a kid, my older brother received a microscope as a gift, and I have happy memories of peering through the eyepiece to see what ordinary things look like under that kind of magnification. It was, however, a long time ago, and the microscope he had was a lot more basic than this set, which includes some great accessories. Other reviewers have said this is a good starter set, and I admit I know so little about microscopes that I'm not able to judge. But for a novice like me, it has all I need to get started--slides, magnifying eyepieces, light source, tools like tweezers, etc. for positioning specimens, instruction booklet, etc. It also has three lenses. (I don't remember my brother's having more than two, if that.) If you or someone you know, kid or adult, is interested in exploring the micro world, I definitely recommend this microscope set. ... show more
