Beefy design, seems safe and should hold up well. Kind of a goofy release mechanism sliding the handle spring from one position to another, but I don't have another so maybe that's normal. The cylinder is very stiff to unwind, easier when a light load is applied. Overall one of those tools that's good to have around but may only get used once a year so should work for my purposes.

This is very easy to use and is almost less expensive than renting one. I can’t really say how sturdy it is as I’ve only used it a few times. Once I tied a rope around a bent over tree and hooked this winch onto a loop on the other end of the rope to pull the tree upright so I could stake it up. The other times, I’ve used it to pull a mobility scooter up a ramp and into my van. This inexpensive tool helps me use my scooter often. As I've only use it a few times, I only gave it 4 stars.

I typically let stuff slide when I buy the cheapest option. However, this device is the cheapest for a reason. I've only used it for a few hours and already the braided metal cable is fraying. The ratchet release is designed in such a way that it's in a pinch point. There is a possibility when releasing tension that you can get your finger or hand caught in the mechanism. Do not buy this come-a-long. Find one that's better designed and more robust.
