I ordered a Try Before You Buy box of 6 pairs of hiking boots by different brands, and I purchased these because they were the lightest and most comfortable for my wide foot (they happened to be the most affordable as well). I sized up to a 9 (I’m an 8.5) so I could use insoles, and I still have room to wiggle in the toe box. The padding around the ankle is slightly bulky, but only when looking down on it, not from a side view. The white, sneaker-like sole makes them look more stylish than your average hiker, and I get a lot of compliments on them. I sometimes swap the red laces for black to mellow them out, but both look good. I’m recovering from a sprained ankle and mid foot, and not taking any more chances by walking or hiking in something that doesn’t offer ankle coverage/support. I’ve been wearing these for two months on neighborhood walks, short and long hikes, and a recent trip to Scotland where I was walking up to 10 miles a day up slippery cobblestone hills, steep stone monuments, and wet, muddy mountains. These shoes never let me down! Even when my feet were submerged in mud up to the laces, my feet stayed dry and the tread stuck to the terrain. I got the green boots with the red laces, and I styled them with wide leg pants and jeans and a trench in Scotland, and they just looked like the sneakers that all the fashion girls were wearing. Loved these shoes!! bought them for a hiking trip to Arizona! very comfortable and provided good stability for the ankles. didn't have any trouble with the clasps for the laces like some reviews mentioned. told my boyfriend it felt like my shoes were in bed!! lol so comfy! i did size up half a size to account for thicker socks ... show more

I’ve been searching for a supportive athletic shoe to replace my Skechers that have been discontinued. I work in a restaurant and am on the go the whole time. Besddes the wide heel, and admittedly I have narrow feet, I thought these were pretty good value for money. I wore them in damp (not really wet) conditions and feet stayed dry. Excellent pair of hiking shoes. Perfect fit. Great arch support. They required no"breaking in"... straight from the box to hiking. My morning hikes take me through lots of wet grass and my feet stay dry. Well worth the money, especially if they last as long as my old pair.
