I don’t normally write reviews on products. I also view products as something that has to work for me. Whether it’s $5 or $500 the item must measure up. When these arrived I was unsure about them. A little long. The had an almost baggy feel at first. But here is the great part. I just concluded a 4 day hike across all of Garner State Park. The temp was 94. It rained once in the night. The river was practically dry so these pants saw rock escarpments, cactus, river, various other plants. I was not easy on these things. They were the lightest pants I had on me. I converted them to shorts and pants back and forth multiple times. It was easy no snags. They helped block that direct sun as I tend to burn. They were quick drying. Also not one fray or tear. Columbia is sometimes a miss on clothes. This is a home run. Add these to your kit. They are worth the price and will make your outing enjoyable. Although I mostly hike northern areas. These can do well up there. I am truly blown away at the lightness of this garment and the fact it held up. For once the label and claims stood up.

When I was looking at sizes, I noted that the material switched from polyester to cotton depending on size. I would have preferred the cotton and that is why I ordered. They arrived and they are 100 percent polyester. I also found them to be long and reordered the next shorter size, and they fit well, but still polyester. They seem to be well made, and I think live up to the Columbia name. Can't find anything else made with cotton, so I'm keeping these because they fit.

Love, love, love these pants. They're light weight, comfortable, and have useful pockets.* They're a full POUND lighter than my regular pants, so with two pair in my pack and wearing the third pair, it saves me THREE pounds on the trail. They also dry extremely quickly. Was caught in a hail/rain downpour at 11,500 feet and got soaked. Once the weather cleared, they were totally dry after about 20 minutes more hiking. Pitched camp in some wet grass, and they got wet again from the knee down. Sitting at the end of my tent, they were totally dry by morning. My socks...not so much. :) I love that the belt is light weight and low profile. To save even more weight on the trail, I'll leave two of the three belts home and just swap each time I change clothes. Really great pants... *I actually hiked with my Canon EF 70-200 F4L IS USM lens in one of the front pockets (for 10 miles). Was way easier than stowing it in my pack and having to fetch it every time I wanted to switch from my 16-35mm. Totally worked, and I'd do it that way again.

I backpack hundreds of miles every year. While these pants have a thin material, theybseemnto hold up as well as the $100+ brands such as Kuhl, Prana, and others. They fit me, a 170 lb 5'11" male, very well. They are excellent at the price range.

I bought this and the non utility version. This has better fit, fabric, and comfort and improved belt, but both being 36x34, legs are wider all the way down. Fit looks like old man flowy pants.
