  • A Reliable and Comfortable Hiking Boot for All Terrains
A Reliable and Comfortable Hiking Boot for All Terrains If you’re looking for a solid, lightweight, and waterproof hiking boot that provides durability and comfort without breaking the bank, the Columbia Men's First Generation Redmond III Mid Waterproof is an excellent choice. Designed for outdoor enthusiasts who need reliable footwear for hiking, trekking, and even daily wear, this boot delivers outstanding performance across various conditions. Design & Build Quality – Rugged Yet Lightweight The Redmond III Mid Waterproof boasts a modern yet functional design, combining a durable suede leather and synthetic mesh upper that ensures breathability while maintaining sturdiness. Unlike traditional heavy hiking boots, Columbia has managed to strike a perfect balance between lightweight materials and rugged construction. The mid-cut design provides ample ankle support, making it ideal for uneven trails and long hikes. The metal eyelets for lacing add durability, preventing wear and tear even after months of use. The boot also features Columbia’s signature Omni-Tech™ waterproof technology, ensuring your feet stay dry during wet or muddy hikes. Comfort & Fit – Perfect Right Out of the Box Comfort is a top priority when choosing hiking boots, and the Redmond III Mid Waterproof does not disappoint. Right out of the box, these boots feel comfortable with little to no break-in period required. The cushioned midsole offers excellent shock absorption, reducing foot fatigue on long hikes. One of the standout features is the Techlite™ lightweight midsole, which provides superior cushioning and high-energy return, making each step feel less strenuous. Whether you’re tackling steep inclines or walking on flat trails, these boots offer all-day comfort. The sizing is true to fit, and there’s ample room in the toe box, which is great for hikers who need a bit more space without sacrificing a snug fit around the rest of the foot. Waterproof Performance – Keeps Feet Dry A true waterproof hiking boot should withstand wet conditions, and the Redmond III Mid Waterproof lives up to its name. Thanks to the Omni-Tech™ waterproof membrane, these boots do an excellent job of keeping water out while still allowing breathability. I tested them on muddy trails, shallow water crossings, and even during light rain, and they held up impressively well. Even after prolonged exposure to wet conditions, my feet remained completely dry, which is essential for long hikes where moisture can lead to blisters and discomfort. Traction & Stability – Confident Grip on Any Surface One of the highlights of this boot is the Omni-Grip™ non-marking rubber outsole, which offers excellent traction on various terrains. Whether you're navigating rocky trails, muddy paths, or loose gravel, the grip remains secure and stable. The multi-directional lug pattern on the outsole enhances stability and ensures you won’t slip, even on wet or uneven surfaces. Compared to other boots in the same price range, Columbia has done a fantastic job in optimizing traction for both casual hikers and serious adventurers. Durability – Built to Last Durability is a crucial factor for any hiking boot, and the Redmond III Mid Waterproof is built to withstand rough conditions. The suede leather and synthetic overlays provide excellent longevity, ensuring that the boots don’t wear out quickly. After several hikes through rocky trails, forests, and wet conditions, the boots showed minimal signs of wear, which is impressive given their lightweight construction. With proper care, these boots should last for several hiking seasons without losing their performance. Breathability – No Overheating Despite being waterproof, these boots are surprisingly breathable. The mesh panels allow for proper air circulation, preventing excessive sweating even on warm hikes. If you’ve struggled with waterproof boots that make your feet feel too hot, the Redmond III Mid Waterproof offers a nice balance between waterproof protection and breathability. Weight – Lightweight for a Mid-Cut Boot Weighing in at approximately 15 oz (per boot), these are lighter than most traditional hiking boots, making them an excellent choice for those who want a balance between support and agility. This makes them particularly great for day hikes and multi-day treks where you don’t want heavy boots slowing you down. Value for Money – Affordable & High-Performing One of the best aspects of the Columbia Redmond III Mid Waterproof is its affordable price tag. Compared to high-end hiking boots from brands like Salomon, Merrell, or The North Face, these boots offer exceptional value for money while still delivering top-notch performance. If you’re a casual to moderate hiker looking for a reliable and comfortable waterproof boot without spending over $150, this is one of the best options available. Pros & Cons ✅ Pros: ✔ Lightweight & comfortable with minimal break-in time ✔ Omni-Tech™ waterproofing keeps feet dry ✔ Omni-Grip™ outsole provides excellent traction ✔ Durable suede & mesh upper ensures longevity ✔ Affordable compared to premium brands ✔ Mid-cut ankle support for stability on rough terrain ❌ Cons: ✖ Not ideal for extreme mountaineering – Best suited for moderate hikes ✖ Limited insulation – Not the best choice for extreme cold weather ✖ Slightly less cushioning compared to premium hiking boots Final Verdict – A Must-Have for Hikers Looking for Comfort & Affordability The Columbia Men's First Generation Redmond III Mid Waterproof is an excellent all-around hiking boot that balances comfort, durability, waterproofing, and traction at an affordable price. Whether you’re a weekend hiker, a casual explorer, or someone looking for a reliable travel boot, this pair won’t disappoint. While it may not be the best option for hardcore mountaineering or extreme cold, it excels in moderate to challenging hiking conditions. If you want a dependable waterproof hiking boot without spending a fortune, the Redmond III Mid Waterproof is a top-notch choice. ⭐ Overall Rating: 4.7/5 ⭐ ... show more

  • Great Work Boots
Size: 11 Color: Cordovan/Elk
My husband loves these boots for work and wears them year-round. He’s been using this brand for several years, and we typically buy a couple of pairs a year. They’re a great fit for his wide feet, and the grip on the soles works perfectly for his job. The only downside is that they could last a bit longer, but overall, they’re reliable and comfortable! ... show more

  • A wonderful, comfortable shoe
This is my second pair from Columbia. It is the "wide" version and perfect for an aging person whose feet are spreading out with age. I used to suffer from numb toes but now this has been solved in a very comfortable and good looking shoe. I would recommend them for all seasons. As for the waterproofing: excellent. I was caught in a rain storm earlier this week and no worries of even damp. I'm also an avid biker (bicycle) and these are very comfortable allowing the foot to breathe. The shoes are very sturdy and have held up beautifully. I would buy a 3rd pair tomorrow! ... show more

  • Fantastic shoes
This is my first pair of Columbias, but not my last. We bought them for a cruise & they outperformed every hiking shoe I’ve ever had. Super comfortable, well built & amazing traction in all conditions. And they look great while doing it. Love these shoes, worth every penny!

  • I'm loving this brand!
I'm writing this review AFTER my review of a recent pair of hiking sneakers that I bought. Loved the hiking sneakers and realized they are the same brand as these boots I purchased at the begining of summer! These Columbia ankle-boots are perfect for my flat, old and Army-abused feet. When I was searching for a decent, waterproof hiking boot the Columbia's caught my attention; 1) for their price and, 2) i really liked the color. I am not a hiker but I like the hiking-style boots and shoes as they are great for motorcycling. And, having something other than black leather for motorcycle boots is a plus for me in the southern states where it gets so hot in the summers that your feet can get very hot and sweaty fast. Having a lighter color really makes a difference. Despite that these boots fit me perfectly...and I bought them a 1/2 size larger than my normal size. They weathered one 2-week long motorcycle trip, although I cannot speak of their waterproof-ness as I finally had a rain-free motorcycle trip this year. I willing to bet they're more water RESISTANT, as there has NEVER been a waterPROOF boot I owned that didn't get my feet wet. (Even the higher-priced boots claiming to be waterPROOF...aren't! (Unless they're the Duckies!) Overall, I plan to stick with the Columbia brand. I think the quality is on par with the bigger name-brands yet their prices are WAY lower than the others. Glad I took a chance on the Columbia brand as I really like them! ... show more

  • Excellent, well balanced hiking shoes
Of all the Columbia brand hiking shoes I have purchased in the last decade, the Redmond is among the best. Typically, my wife and I do 2-7 mile hikes in mixed terrain. The soles of these shoes are optimized for trails which may include larger rocks or boulders. I highly recommend this model with the caveat that you should not count on the water proof lining to survive longer than a year. I’ve had two pairs that I had to return (at my expense) to qualify for warranty replacements from Columbia. While I would be thrilled if the lining lasted longer, I feel very loyal to Columbia based upon their excellent customer service. If you can but these for under $70 US, grab them! ... show more

  • Not EVEN waterproof!
I think they run a bit narrow but are mostly comfortable while hiking through woods, meadows, creeks and on sidewalks. However, they are definitely NOT waterproof. I just got in from a 4 mile woods hike in a light mist and I had to wring the water from my socks.
