  • Great, affordable, good looking balance bike
The media could not be loaded. This review is for the MetBelle Colorful Lighting Toddler Balance Bike in White. Lets get real, my three and a half year old son did not need a status symbol balance bike that cost hundreds of dollars. What he needed, was an affordable, functional, good looking, and COOL balance bike. This MetBelle bike checked all those boxes. He really liked the LED lights in the wheels, and I felt that the seat was well designed to be long and saddle shaped, perfect for a toddler who is walking their legs and learning to balance. The white and brown color scheme is attractive, and the handle bars are a firm rubber material. Assembly was pretty easy, but the instructions were horrible. It's a good thing there were limited parts so not that many ways to mess up. My understanding was that the bolts should be fed down so that the split lock washer and friction nut go underneath the mounting plate below the seat. The ring bearing should go at the bottom of the handlebar/front wheel setup, so that the weight is pushing down onto the bearings and the bearings prevent grinding and friction. Mine came with a tool to tighten the bolts and an extra bolt too. The tires seem like a firm rubberized foam of sorts, almost like some of the less expensive tennis shoes, so there isn't that much traction with the ground. I don't think there needs to be, since this is a balance bike and a majority of kids aren't going to be using this to go downhill biking and turning extreme corners. If that's your kid, you might want to find them something different. The only part of this that I thought wasn't fantastic, was the scratching of the paint on the handlebar and seat bar. Because of how the adjustable heights work with the locking nut, the painted parts are very easily scratched. The listing says the frame is carbon steel, and so if those black parts are considered part of the frame, then the places that are scratched could rust. Best to not only keep the bike dry (or dry it off after it gets wet) but to be careful when adjusting the heights. Speaking of heights, my three and a half year old is on the short side, and we had the seat fully lowered and the handlebars fully raised. That seemed to be a pretty comfortable position for him, so I would've liked to have seen the handlebars go a little higher, but right now it fits great. When looking at whether to recommend a product, a lot of factors go into it. The quality, functionality, looks, and finally the value. Is this bike worth just under $70? Absolutely. I can definitely recommend this. My son has had a blast using it, and has been asking to use it again and again. It's a great way to learn how to balance on a bike and a healthy way to get outdoors and move around. ... show more

  • Amazing First Bike—My 3-Year-Old Is a Pro!
I couldn’t be happier with this balance bike! My three-year-old is zipping around on it like a pro and even tackling small hills now. I’m so impressed with how quickly she picked it up—she’s gained so much confidence and balance in such a short time. I got similar bikes for my older kids and they were never interested. I think the key is that this time my daughter was forced outside and watched her older siblings. She wasn't interested at first because she kept falling. She just kept trying and once it clicked she just took off! I have no doubt that she’ll be ready to transition to a pedal bike without ever needing training wheels. The adjustable seat and handlebars are great because the bike will grow with her, and the colorful lighting wheels are such a fun feature—she’s obsessed with them! I also love how lightweight the frame is. It’s easy for her to handle on her own, and the carry handle makes it simple for me to transport when we’re out and about. Assembly took literally a minute, so she was riding in no time. This bike is sturdy, well-designed, and a total win for both parents and kids! Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Instructions are pictures very few words
If you assembled a bike before, this one is a cinch. The ball bearing ring fits in its grooved washer and goes under the front wheel frame where the two meet. The wrench is included in the box. Frame is metal and sturdy. Rolls easily but the plastic tires make it a bit of a bumpy ride.

  • Nice, but some quality issues
Color: WHITENESS
This is a nice balancing bike for kids to learn to ride a bike with pedals in no time. But I had a few issues with the quality of this bike and the instructions. First, assembly was straightforward, but I built bikes in the past. While there are details about how to put in the screws and nuts to assemble the frame/rear part of the bike, there was no mentioning of how to install the ball bearings for the steering and the associated metal ring. I knew how to from previous builds, but that's not really self-understood for less technically versed people. The ball bearings go on the fork (onto the paint, pretty much), and the metal ring goes on top. The metal ring will get stuck in the plastic cup once the bike is assembled. There is zero lubricant on the ball bearing. I recommend to add some grease to keep things from getting rusty too quickly. In particular since the paint is very easy to scrape off. So, with time and use (and maybe outdoor storage), this area will be a rusty mess. Quality issues I had were that the fork protrudes too little to be a good fit the seat clamp that they use to secure the handlebar (see image). The clamp covers maybe 2/3 of an inch, but the fully inserted fork only protrudes from the frame by about 1/3 of an inch. See photo. There is a pretty substantial gap. When tightened firmly and accurately, the connection felt sturdy, but it doesn't feel like something handling a number of bumpy rides and abuses, since the aluminum clamp is soft, and the paint of the frame is also very soft (see image). It was nearly completely removed in some areas by the too snug seat clamps. Also, there was some brown rusty discoloration on the front fork. It didn't happen during transport... Finally, the display 'colorful lightning' wheels is totally exaggerated and wrong. The only portion that contains LEDs is a tiny 1/2" wide plastic covered area around the axle, not the spokes. I also realized that the LEDs (red, green, blue) only begin to fire up when the wheels are spun with some force - they seem to be dynamo-driven, and only begin to illuminate when the wheels are spun at a pretty good speed. Also, one wheel needed a lot more revolutions than the other to have some lights coming up, as if it needed more power to do the same job. The blue light was almost invisible compared to the other wheel. When the bike was assembled, and we pushed it at kid walking speed pace, the LEDs lit up barely on the 'better' wheel, while the other one was 'dead'. So, it requires speeds of more than a fast adult walking to become illuminated at a good level. I frankly do not see our kid 'speeding' down the street on such a bike at massive speeds to see some LEDs illuminate on the wheels (staring downwards at this speed - hello, ambulance). In short, this illumination is a dangerous gimmick, and it is a disappointing. It should light up well at really low speeds so that the kid can look at it at safe and slow speeds. ... show more
