We’ve got answers! What is Colorfil? The main active ingredient in Colorfil's chemisorptive coating is citric acid, a derived chemical found in fruit. What is Colorful filters MERV rating? Colorfil filters are MERV 8, but they remove a lot more than just dust! Colorfil’s color-shift technology captures and binds chemicals and odors at the molecular level, which regular filters cannot. What does Colorfil remove? Designed by engineers out of the University of Illinois to remove odorous chemicals from spacecraft and space suits, Colorfil primarily targets ammonia and amine compounds responsible for many pet, bathroom, and cooking odors, and fumes from household cleaners. In addition to chemicals and odors, our filters remove dander, dust, pollen, and other small particles from your air. How does Colorfil work? Colorfil’s color- shift technology incorporates a built-in indicator to show the status of the filter. Colorfil changes color from pink to yellow as it binds and neutralizes chemicals and odors on the surface of the filter, in addition to capturing hair, dust, and pollen like traditional air filters do! How quickly will the color-change? Many factors impact the life of your filter, including number of pets in the home, HVAC use, temperature and humidity. With some exceptions, you can expect the color of your filter to change from pink to orange to yellow over the course of 2 weeks to 4 months. A yellow filter still retains some effectiveness against odors, and the front face will gradually turn gray as it continues to effectively capture dander, dust, pollen, and hair. How often should I replace it? In the case of a fast color change (< 1 month) we generally recommend replacing on a monthly cadence to save money and reduce waste.
