When I ordered this toothpaste I thought I was getting a very pleasant, minty toothpaste such as I'd gotten as a sample from my dentist. Well, I didn't get "that" paste. Rather I got one "related" or "in the same family" of pastes. Colgate has apparently added to their Optic White line of toothpastes, and I didn't know that. Is this a good toothpaste? Yes, I think it's quite good. It certainly wakes me up every morning when I use it. Do I prefer it to the minty, green gel Optic White Colgate? In a word, no. I bought a package with three tubes of this type of paste and the price was great. Will I continue to use it, yes. But when it comes time to order more toothpaste I'm going to do my best to find the gel-type I first used. This one smells and tastes fine, and it actually has hydrogen peroxide in it, which may be why it has such a kick to it once in your mouth. From what I've read the peroxide in the paste should be beneficial as it helps to fight the bacteria that causes plaque. I cannot vouch for effectiveness in changing how my teeth look; I'm not into the "brilliant white teeth" look. To me it makes your teeth look fake. I'll make a decision as to effectiveness after I see my dentist the next time. For now: This is a very good quality toothpaste, with good taste, the right ingredients and a very good price. ... show more

I grabbed this Colgate Optic White Advanced 3-pack because my coffee habit has been personally attacking my enamel for years. After a week of using it, my teeth started looking less “latte-stained survivor” and more “did you just get them professionally polished?” This stuff works. Like, noticeably. Even my girlfriend asked if I switched to a whitening filter in real life. The hydrogen peroxide formula is strong enough to lift the tea, coffee, and wine crimes off my teeth, but still gentle enough that my enamel isn’t filing a complaint. Plus, getting a three-pack means I don’t have to panic-buy toothpaste at 11 pm like a gremlin anymore. Pros: • Actually whitens — not the “maybe if you squint” kind, the real deal • Enamel-safe, which my dentist would probably high-five me for • Fresh minty taste that doesn’t feel like I just licked chemicals • Removes coffee, tea, and wine stains (aka my entire personality) Cons: • Now I have to smile in pictures because I have no excuse • Friends keep asking what whitening strips I switched to, and I have to admit it’s just… toothpaste • My bathroom cabinet now looks like a Colgate commercial If you want a toothpaste that actually delivers on whitening without making your teeth feel sensitive or sad, this is the one.
