  • Great for kid camping
This is a great simple tent for a 11yo to set up and break down mostly by themselves, and with the help of other young campers.

  • A great 4 person tent with lights overhead! Nice!
This Skydome tent sets up in under 5 minutes, and it has space for 4 adults in the dry. Made by Coleman, I can't find out what fabric the tent is made of - even on Coleman's website! I believe it is polyester. It has welded seams and is 8 feet by 7 feet, and has a 4 foot 8 inch height in the center. That's actually taller than other Skydome tents. I'm 74. I don't bend well! I need that extra headroom so I can get dressed without falling out of the tent and rolling downhill! Sadly, that's happened! The tent has gear pockets inside above the floor, and a mesh "gear loft" in the center of the roof. Understand that you can't put much weight in the "gear loft!" The bottom extends up 6 inches and the walls are welded onto it. That means even if it rains, the inside of the tent stays try. Nice! It has a rain fly to keep you dry, and help keep the heat in it. They say it is suitable for backpacking and hiking. Right. Ain't happening! It weighs a HEFTY 11 1/3 pounds. But for your family camping trip? It's perfect! It will sleep 4 using sleeping bags. If you like luxury in the wilds, it will hold a single queen sized airbed with lots of space left over for gear storage. It even has a port on one corner so you can run an extension cord through the wall without water getting in! I love it! Later --- Now that I have more experience with this tent, I've learned a thing or two. First, you must take the lights OUT of the tent before you strike the tent and fold it for storage. If you haven't already, rip that white tape off of the carry bag that says basically "rip me off". This adds a fair amount of storage space, which you need! Why? You'll never get the tent back in that compact storage bag again unless you do expand the bag! And don't race to pop the tent up. You'll end up having to start all over again. The instructions are sewn into the storage bag. Follow them and you'll succeed! This a warm weather tent! There is mesh for a roof. There's a rain fly that can cover the roof, but you are fully open to the sky and weather without the rain fly. Due to the external skeleton, it is impossible to use the rain fly to stop the loss of heat. For winter and cold weather camping, this tent is NOT your friend! The tent has a "lighting system". Once the tent is up, you thread the light string through either a solid diffuser or through loops beside the diffuser for brighter light. It is rather a pain to push the light string through the diffuser. It's much easier to run them through the loops. There is a battery pocket at the top of the front wall. Before you strike the tent you MUST remove the lights! ... show more

  • This outdoor leader says: Great little tent, easy up (getting it back in the bag is another matter)
As an experienced outdoor leader and avid camper, I’ve spent plenty of time in tents of all shapes and sizes. My go-to for big trips is a giant Coleman XL "easy-up" tent that I absolutely love, so I decided to swap out my usual smaller tent for this Coleman 2-4 person version—and I’m happy to say it’s a great addition to my camping setup. I’ve tried to organize this review so you can find things easily. Turns out I had a lot to say! Setup True to its “easy-up” reputation, this tent is super simple to set up. The first time took me under 10 minutes, and by the second time, I had it down to about 5. The process is straightforward: take it out of the bag, connect the pre-attached poles (each attached to a corner of the tent), cross them diagonally, and fit them into the pockets at the floor corners. Clip the tent body to the poles, throw on the fly, and you’re done. Easy peasy. The rainfly is definitely something you’ll want to add, as the tent body has a ton of mesh, which is great for airflow but leaves the interior completely visible otherwise. A heads-up: once the fly is on, it’s on. There are no zippered window openings or ways to adjust the fly, so plan accordingly. That said, the fly does a decent job for light rain or casual camping in mild weather. I wouldn’t rely on it for heavy downpours or super windy conditions, but for weekend trips and fair-weather camping, it’s perfect. Space & Comfort I’m 6’ tall, so standing up in this tent isn’t happening—but for a smaller tent, the headroom is actually quite generous. It comfortably fits a queen-sized air mattress with a bit of room to spare on the sides for gear, a dog, or your camping buddy. The tent also comes with some nice upgrades: A gear loft area for your essentials Handy side pockets for phones, glasses, and keys A little hole for an electrical cord, which is convenient if you need power Fairy lights! Yep, the tent includes fairy lights as a fun bonus, which adds some cozy ambiance for nighttime. Build & Durability The door is well-sized, and the zipper is solid—no snagging issues here. The poles are fiberglass, which is pretty standard for this level of tent. They get the job done, but if you’re a frequent camper like me, I’d recommend bringing a repair kit just in case. Fiberglass isn’t as durable long-term as aluminum, and poles can splinter or snap with rough use or over time. The floor has a bathtub-style design, which is great for keeping seams off the ground and providing better water resistance. That said, I’m a big believer in using a ground tarp, especially for this type of tent. It’ll extend the life of the floor and prevent unnecessary wear and tear. Pack-Up Now for the not-so-great part: getting it back in the bag. It’s doable, but it requires precise folding and rolling, which isn’t always what you feel like doing after a weekend of camping. My solution? I repurposed a big stuff sack I already had. It looks ridiculous and makes the packed tent seem way bigger than it needs to be, but it works and keeps me sane during takedown. Is this a good buy and who/what conditions is it good for? If you’re looking for a quick, easy-to-setup tent for yourself, yourself +1, or even yourself +1 and a dog, this little Coleman delivers. It’s not built for extreme weather, but for casual camping trips in mild conditions, it’s spacious, well-ventilated, and surprisingly comfortable. The extra features like the fairy lights, gear loft, and cord port make it even better, and the setup process couldn’t be simpler. As long as you’re gentle with the poles and bring along a ground tarp, this tent should serve you well for seasons to come. Happy camping! 🌲 ... show more

  • Wind broke my tent poles on first use soaking my camping trip
Easy to set up, spacious, and promptly broke in strong winds at a music festival soaking all of the contents and leaving me without a tent for 4 days. Very few people had a tent that broke but the tent pole itself snapped which has never happened to me. I wish I could have taken a picture of the pool of water that was my tent with all the contents inside but I was too busy scrambling to protect my electronics from the rain ... show more

  • A good choice when weight and volume are at a premium
As non-quick-setup tents go, this one is pretty cool. It's really hard to go wrong with Coleman. This newer style setup where you lay the tent out and make a big X with the poles, then clip the tent to the poles is simple enough to do in the dark, alone even. The absence of the quick setup hardware makes it pack smaller and be a tad lighter, the difference being a one vs five minute setup. I struggle with the "four person" designation. It could be done but there'd be nowhere for your gear and you'd be extra cozy. For me it's one or two plus dog and gear. In any case, it's water resistant, breathes enough for the price point and will work under most three season circumstances. I always use a generic heavyweight tarp to keep my tubs from getting ripped, you should too, they're cheap. I also like to use my own, higher quality stakes, you should too. Your life will be easier. All this to say that for a hundred bucks it's a good deal from a company we should all trust. ... show more
