I bought this cooler on a whim because I was throwing my husband a bonfire for his birthday. Needed something big enough and affordable. Didn’t have too high expectations, just wanted it to serve its purpose for the bonfire. It did. We loaded it in the car at the end of the night and we were too exhausted to take it out and unload it. I figured I would just throw out whatever food was left in it with the little ice it had away the next morning. To my surprise, it was still ICE COLD the next day. Great cooler. I can confirm that the 52 quart/49 L classic cooler from Coleman can keep the ice for more than 3.5 days! I placed four large Tupperware with frozen water in them into the cooler. The top container melted fastest and was completely melted by 90 hours. However, the three other containers below the top container were not fully melted by 90 hours. I have included a photos taken at 24, 48 and at almost 72 hours. At nearly 72 hours the top container was 90% melted. The 2nd was 40% melted. The 3rd was 35% melted. The 4th and bottom one was 50% melted (not shown). Love the handles for carrying. Love the drain I opened and closed the drain at the very beginning before using the cooler,and when there was water built-up in the cooler, it did not leak. At nearly 200 pounds I can sit on the cooler with no problems. As others have said, the lid hinge causes the lid to close. It will not stay open when opened. I have something that I put in the space next to the hinge that keeps the lid open until I’m done working in it, but I wish it would just stay open when I open it until I’m ready to close it. I put 4 frozen 2 liter bottles of water in this empty cooler on Friday night. I set it out on my porch when the days reached into the mid eighties. The ice lasted only until Sunday night. Keep in mind that it is a big space for 4 2 liters. I ended up lining it with a reflective wrap I bought on Amazon and took it camping for a long weekend. I had it half full of food. From Friday morning till Monday noontime the 4 2 liter bottles were still at least half frozen and the air in the cooler was cold every time you opened the lid. This Coleman cooler has been the perfect size for drinks, snacks, and lunch without being too bulky to carry. Good for 1 or 2 days. I just use mine for filling with water bottles and soda and ice. No latching closure is a big miss. Good quality. Handles work great and it’s light weight. Drain plug. Great for day use or packing snacks for the kiddos game days.
