  • Excellent ! (plus a few tips here)
Important book and one of few skin care experts to properly treat the skin as the amazing organ it is !! Our largest organ, most people unknowingly harm their skin (and body and brain) with chemical laden products, just to get that special ingredient (often way down the ingredient list) featured on the front label. Or get skin spa treatments either with temporary benefits, or that actually damage the skin in the short or long term. *** Anyone who treats skin without proper attention to the inside of the body is getting a fraction of the benefits, and could be doing more harm than good. If you go to a skin spa, I recommend first reading as well as listening to at least 2 podcast interviews with Dr. Anthony Youn. Then look for someone qualified and experienced. And understand that there are always risks, even with well qualified professionals. TIP I always treat HALF of my face for 3 months with any new topical (currently trying Youn Retinal moisturizer). Did you know there's a major *placebo* effect in skin care?? In research studies, many people think they look younger when they were given a placebo cream with no anti-aging ingredient. At some point I plan to get microneedling with platelet rich plasma, But I will find a skilled aesthetician and do only *one* side of my face. If I'm happy with the outcome on *one* side of my face, and it lasts for 3 months, I'll do the other side after 3 months. MOST IMPORTANT SKIN CARE TIP Read and use this book by Dr. Trevor Cates COLLAGEN --- Vitamin C and Zinc are needed to make collagen in the skin. But vitamin C and Zinc compete for absorption and should be taken separately. --- Like most doctors, the author mistakenly lists certain food sources of Zinc that are poorly absorbed due to high phytic or oxalic acid in those foods. ***Please look up high oxalic acid foods, and high phytic acid foods. Phytic and oxalic acids interfere with absorption of ALL minerals. Ancestral people soaked and sprouted their plant foods. This removes or reduces phytic and oxalic acids (if done properly). --- Since our soil is depleted of nutrients we do need to supplement. One study found that we get only 1/8 of the vitamin C from an orange than our great grandparents did. If supplementing with Zinc, be aware that Zinc depletes copper. 1-2 mg of copper per 15 mg zinc is a general recommendation. --- Collagen is a large molecule and must be properly broken down into amino acids and peptides to absorb. (Adding collagen to any topical is misleading) Collagen powders that we drink must be *Hydrolyxed Collagen Peptides* on the ingredient label. ... show more

  • Good information
It has a very good information, but the recipes has a lot of ingredients... She also included coconut oil and almond oil for the face cleansers and mask recipes. This is bad for the face, it will clog the pores. That has been my experience with those oils. It seems like you tubers, authors, blogs keep repeating the same information. For example, they keep mentioned that rose water is a good toner for the face, I tried it and I break out. The same thing with almond oil. It might work on dry skin, but not for other skin types. ... show more

  • So when I heard Dr Cates was coming out with a book about how to have amazing skin, I pre-ordered and the book arrived today
I am a follower and fan of Dr Trevor Cates. Through her podcasts, I feel Ive gained so much info on health.....no fufu stuff. I also began using Dr Cates skin care line which exceeded expectations. So when I heard Dr Cates was coming out with a book about how to have amazing skin, I pre-ordered and the book arrived today. In the past I had been frustrated with buying skin care products only to find they don't work or even worse they contain chemicals which are allowed in the US but banned in Europe because they are considered dangerous...... really!!!! I don't trust a lot of products nor hype. But Dr Cates is about science backed info that isn't sponsored by a pharmaceutical or cosmetic company. She is a proponent of organic, natural health.... "food is medicine approach". Her book in loaded with do it yourself face-masks, meal recipes and of course her 2 week program to glowing skin. The book is bigger than I thought with over 200 pages. Im excited to have this information at my fingertips. Being empowered with the knowledge and knowhow to optimize my health reflected by glowing skin..... Im in. I humbly admit my biggest motivation is vanity but in this case, it relates to overall health so its excusable. I plan to read the book in the next week and start the two week program. I will do a follow-up review after the program. ... show more

  • Some of the best info for skin issues but hard to get past the typos and overall organization of this book
She's right on with gut and skin and there's some good info, but it's going to take more then two weeks to fix a leaky gut that's causing skin problems. I had a problem with the typo of Niacinamide being refered to as Nicotinamide, even in the index. I would prefer each skin type kept together instead of woven through each chapter also. Compounded Niacinamide Azelaic acid does help rosacea Heath types along with Burts Bees diaper rash cream at night if your skin is really red and irritated. ... show more

  • A quick, easy, & enjoyable read for the health / skincare / anti-aging lover!
I bought this book because I've been struggling with dark spots on my cheeks. I just had my 28th birthday and am now obsessed with all things anti-aging. I've been putting collagen powder in my coffee every morning, researching bone broth, and constantly trying new skincare products. I read this book in one sitting. I absolutely loved it. It was a quick, easy, and enjoyable read, with lots of helpful information. I now have a long list of things to buy (a dry brush, lavender oil, olives, dandelion greens, broccoli, kefir, milk thistle, papaya, epsom salts), but I can't wait to go to the store and start implementing some of this healthy habits! I knew that my dark spots were sun damage, but I had no idea hormones were also a contributing factor, good to know! If you are struggling with your skin, read this book! It's good motivation to keep working on it and you'll have lots of ideas for new healthy habits to start trying. I can't wait to try some of her smoothie and facial recipes! They all sound amazing. ... show more
