  • Reasonable price for a 2 PC 3 monitor KVM...but it has some drawbacks
Setup was quick and easy, basically plug and play. It worked well initially. As time has gone on (this is written about 4 months after purchase) it is more and more problematic trying to switch between PC's. Specifically the issue is monitors will randomly go to sleep. I find that if the unit is left on for extended periods of time (overnight) this becomes more problematic. Audio is absolutely terrible, you'll need a separate audio splitter to run one set of speakers between both PC's I've also noticed as time goes on that bumping the USB plugged into the front will also cause issues with the monitors. Not sure if there is a weak solder inside our not. All that being said, it is one of the few economically priced KVM's that can run 3 monitors. It'll do the job with occasional hiccups. ... show more

  • Great for video, OK for enhanced keyboards, terrible for audio
I've had my fair share of KVMs over the years. 2 port, 4 port, 8 port, etc. From the aspect of what we expect them to do, this one does a pretty good job, with a couple of caveats. First, switching video. This was literally the only reasonably priced unit out there that can switch 3 HDMI monitors between 2 computers. So I was pretty amped to find it at all. And it does that portion of its job very well. I really like that they include the wired remote so you can stash the KVM itself behind your rigs and switch with a single button. Very nice. Next the keyboard thing. Don't get me wrong - the KVM handles switching the input devices (wired) between systems just fine. My issue isn't so much with this box failing in any way, just disappointing. I have a Razer Ornata keyboard, and the Razer software that controls the LED colors and detects the keyboard can't see it any more. The KVM presents a "virtual keyboard" to the systems. While it's not an issue for performance (the keyboard is just as responsive as it was when directly wired) it is a little bit of a let down. But, you can't have everything. Finally, the really annoying part. Audio. I'm going to go ahead and say do NOT use this KVM to switch your audio. Get a splitter (like $5) and run your computers directly into your speakers or headphones. The audio shielding inside the KVM is abysmal and you'll get a persistent whine in your speakers that is like a splinter in your brain. It will literally drive you nuts. I tried moving the cables, switching the cables, etc. No joy. So I just bypassed the switch all together for audio and I'm sane again. All in all, for what you're asking the KVM to do, a pretty good box. Just make other plans for sound! ... show more

  • It works perfectly - but setup can be tricky
I read a lot of reviews and from what I could tell, besides actual hardware failure on the box itself, the bulk of the negative reviews seem to be related to the lousy setup instructions. Once deciphered, though, it's a breeze. The instructions say "click" on the control (CTRL) key twice, press a hotkey and Enter. Press/tap the CTRL key twice. not click. Do follow the instructions explicitly. Shutdown the computers you're connecting and make sure the KVM is off. After everything is connected, turn it all back on - doesn't matter the order. Regardless of OS, you'll probably have to do some rearranging of your multi-monitor setup. I have 3 monitors and I had to rearrange for both the Windows laptop and Mac mini. Setup didn't go smoothly either. The keyboard worked on one and not the other. The mouse pointer moved on the mac but it didn't register clicks. The manual that comes with the KVM helped me out by instructing me how to reset the KVM (in my casem tap CTRL twice, hit R and then Enter) - after the reset, everything worked just fine. Switching between machines is easy. USB headset and webcam switch over just fine. Analog audio works from both machines, too. I should also note that I bought the HDMI version. Both machines I have only have one HDMI port. The Mac is USB-C and the docking station for the laptop is DisplayPort (DP++ - passive) and DP on USB-C. I bought USB-C to HDMI and DisplayPort to HDMI cables and ran those to the inputs on the KVM. Make sure you understand the output ports on your machines - some DisplayPort require an active adapter all the time, or if you're running multiple monitors. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this KVM. It does exactly what I'd hoped for. Any issues I ran into during setup were related to limitations of the hardware I was connecting to/from. ... show more
