  • Does the job well, but cables are too short
Like many I’ve been teleworking for over four months now and I’ve been evolving my IT setup over that entire time. My primary monitor is a ViewSonic 4K 32” display that had video input coming from a laptop and a desktop. For keyboard and mouse I was using a basic USB switch. The biggest flaw with the monitor was that it required 4-6 button presses to switch video input. The annoyance factor finally let me to look for a KVM that could drive the big monitor and switch input sources with a single button push. After some searching I found this KVM. The biggest thing driving my selection of it was the ability to support 4K @ 60Hz video. My PC outputs at this resolution and refresh rate while the laptop outputs at 4K @ 30Hz. There is some delay in the video during a switch (about 5 seconds), but I believe that is an issue with the monitor rather than the switch. Also, I had issues feeding video through the KVM from a USB-C multifunction hub with video output. Running direct to the monitor this hub can drive 4K but through the KVM it would only go to FHD (1080p). I’ve had other issues with this hub’s video output so again I don’t blame the KVM for this. Fortunately, the laptop had a direct HDMI output that has no issue doing 4K through the KVM. I’m giving 4-stars instead of 5-stars for one reason. The cables for the KVM are far too short, just under 3’ long. My PC and the laptop are on opposite sides of the desk so the position for the KVM was very restricted having to be almost exactly between the two in order to reach. The remote switch button does come in very handy here being that it can be several feet away from the KVM in an easy to reach location. The switch has its own 5V power input so it doesn’t depend on the computer power for all functions. The product page shows a cable for this power input. What wasn’t shown was the power adapter which was included in the box. Nice touch, they should show that in the marketing. Biggest missing feature that would have been nice to add is a keyboard shortcut for switching inputs. A couple more switched USB ports would be nice as well so that an accessory or two (like a headset or webcam) could be shared between computers in addition to the keyboard and mouse. Finally, it would be nice if the KVM could simulate a keyboard and mouse signal to the inactive device. When I switch inputs the laptop beeps as it thinks the keyboard and mouse are being disconnected. All in all, good enough product at a really good price (at the point when I bought it). My searching turned up less capable products at twice the price. ... show more

  • Almost Perfect
I really want to give this 5 stars, but I can't. The device switches perfectly. There is one problem however with the usb cable going from the switch to a computer. When I have the usb plugged into my older dell inspiron 530, the computer hangs very long at the bios screen. It appears to have a problem detecting the hardware behind the switch on the usb line. My other brand new custom built computer has no problems at boot. The only way I can get the dell to continue booting past the bios screen is to unplug the usb plug until it gets into windows. Once I'm in windows, I can plug the usb plug back in and everything works perfectly. I do have a usb hub plugged into one of the input usb ports. With or without the hub, I still encounter this problem. I never turn my pc's off, but instead have them automatically sleep. I'm going to try one more switch from another company to see if I still have the same problem. For less than $40 this is still a very good deal. If you have a pc only a few years old then you should not encounter my problem. This dell I have is about 10 years old. ************* UPDATE: ************* I found a solution to my bios hanging. I read on another switch description that a usb hub could be used if connected to the mouse port. I plugged in a power usb hub into the mouse port and plugged my mouse into the keyboard port. The keyboard is plugged into the hub. I no longer have a bios hang now. ... show more

  • The only one in this price range which keeps it on.
Good: - Excellent form factor. - This is the only KVM in under $40 which does not disconnects when switching between devices and continues to emulate HDMI. So if you work with multiple monitors it makes it keeps the same screen connection and not reconfigures the screens. That is the main thing why I kept it. - It comes with power supply. And the good part of it that it supports USB cable, so you can plug it in your computer for power. Bad: - HDMI out and power connections are on the side of the box. Why would anybody do this? it takes more space... Make it an inch wider but put all the connections in the back. Or at least ship it with angled connectors. Even though it's only 4.5" wide, it's going to take at least 8" on your desk. - I know this is esthetics, but please ship black cables with the black box. It looks nicer... :D Ugly: - does not have key switching or remote switch. So you have to keep it within the arm reach instead of at the back of a desk. ... show more

  • Monitor port solution
Style: 8 x1 USB 2.0 4K 30Hz
After around a month of use, the monitor port seemed to have an issue. As it turns out, there is a very easy fix. I rate this as 4 stars because, although the switch did have an issue, it works great after the fix: Default hotkey is right [CTRL] on the keyboard step 1. turn off KVM switch and all of your computers/laptops, then unplug all the cables; step 2. plug power adapter into KVM switch and AC socket, turn on KVM switch(there is a o/f button on the back); step 3. plug keyboard to KVM switch; step 4. click right [CTRL] on the keyboard 2 times, then click [ESC] 3 times, at last click [ENTER]. (whole operate time should not over 5s); step 5. plug KVM cables into KVM switch and computers, plug HDMI cable into KVM and your monitors; plug mouse to KVM switch; step 6. boot computers. For the keyboard and mouse freeze during using, you make this operate: click right [CTRL] on the keyboard 2 times, then click [ESC] 3 times, at last click [ENTER]. (whole operate time should not over 5s), then keyboard and mouse will resume normal. ... show more
