The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. • Nice Watch for the Price Point
This is an entry level Citizen model. Movement is decent and styling is on the nicer side of fine. The watch face is a deep blue that catches the light with some mild radiance, but looks almost black in low light. Could be easily worn as a dress watch, with business casual, or just jeans and t-shirt. Stainless steal has a brushed finish which gives it some interesting texture. The case itself is thin and the entire watch is lighter than I expected. Some people complain about the band being low quality, but I don't see any issues with it (especially at this price point). It is worth taking a minute to say what this watch is NOT. It is NOT going to fool your friends into thinking you bought a really expensive time piece. It is NOT going to last you for decades like a higher end watch. Don't buy this thinking you are getting a watch that looks like it costs 10x its retail price. It doesn't and you will be disappointed. What you get is a decent "daily driver" that is versatile and expendable. It looks respectable while only costing you about $80. If you are not a watch guy, or just want something that looks fine instead of your old beater watch from high school, then this will suit you well. If you want something with higher end styling, look at similar ecodrive Citizen models such as the ones in titanium that are around $300. A few clarification are also in order. The dials indicate the day of the week, day of month, and military time hour. This is NOT a chronograph watch. Also, as this is a lower end Citizen it is NOT an ecodrive, but just a plain old battery quartz. I didn't ding it any stars for this, but the band does not have the standard pin and link system. You will need a good deal of patience and an online instruction video to figure out how to get the pins to pop. Still after about 30 minutes I managed to get it sized correctly. Frustrating but not a deal breaker. (I really don't know why Citizen didn't just use a more standard band...maybe cost?) Also, mildly annoying, but not worth docking the rating, Amazon delivered the display box damaged. If this was a higher end Citizen I might be more concerned about this and mat have even returned it. But seeing that this particular model is going to have little if any resale value (and no sale is going to be interested in a pristine box) I will let this one slide. All in all, nice value level watch by a reputable brand. I'm happy with it, but just don't buy it expecting it to be something it is not. ... show more

  • Waterproof add keeps time!
After 2 months, including occasional showers and swimming in salt water, this thing is going strong. Not sure how the non-screw-cap stem keeps water out to 300m, but it seems to work just fine. I'd much rather have a simple moon-phase dial instead of the superfluous 24hr dial, but for price-value I can't complain. Nice usability touch: the stem pull-out is designed to easily accommodate the most frequent adjustment you'll need to make: skipping day 31. Biggest downcheck: too many shiney elements on the dial(s) can make it hard to read in midday solar glare. Net: No regrets; I'd get it again. ... show more
