This little gem of a watch is probably one of the best bang for buck watches you can find. It has a hand winding and hacking movement with the original style face. I am on the smaller side of wrists yet it wears amazing thanks to the lug to lug. The seller shipped the watch almost immediately and had it on my wrist in less than a weeks time . Solid build. The rubber strap seems to be well made, but a little bit stiff, though it is not enough so to be a problem. Accuracy is very good, gaining 1-2 seconds per day.

Usually anything made in Japan is perfect.This is NOT the case with this Citizen CZNY0040-09E. The bezel, and dial are off buy half-second. In the military half-second can get you killed. Citizen get it together, maintain the high stand of being perfect. Thank you for your time if you read this.

I’ll admit it. I’ve been a watch snob for the last 10-15 years, only ever considering omegas, Rolexes, tudors, IWCs, etc. and then I’d only consider wearing Seikos as my daily beater watches that I wouldn’t bat an eye if it got scratched or whatever (turns out automatic seikos really can take a beating and still work perfectly over many years…and look great too after a little bit of cleaning)….and then there is citizen. Those cheap-o watches that are pretty much discount generic brand-looking watches you can find at factory outlet malls, Ross, or at Macys discount counter littered with red SALE tags like they can’t get rid of em of cheaper. What self respecting watch snob would dare wear one of these things?..that is until I came across several YouTube videos, with accomplished military background folks who would swear by their citizen watches and would tell of the rich history of citizen diving watches, from the orca, to the aqualand, to the fugu, and later the famed fujitsubo. I went down a rabbit a hole and few internet articles later, I was hooked! I first started with the titanium fujitsubo release they did a couple years ago and it is an absolute dream! Such a stunning watch with an even greater tale (look it up!). I love a good story to go with the jewelry that gives me energy and inspiration to continue the adventures these watches can brutally take. This is when I came across the legend of the citizen fugu. It gets its nickname because the bezel kinda resembles a puffed out puffer fish(I don’t really see it but whatever). This watch was released in the 90s with the smaller retro dimensions that were popular of the time (I wish the watch industry would stick to smaller sleeker designs, the bulky watches look does NOT age well and will look dated in 10 years). Citizen supposedly released the fugu in order to compete with the Seiko SKX which was and still is wildly popular and to be honest, they really do look similar like a Camry to an Altima kinda thing. But what citizen did was they re-released the fugu in recent years with the exact same dimensions as the original but upgraded the guts and gears so that it functions ever more perfectly and easier (went from mechanical winding to automatic). It keeps excellent time. Wearability is beautiful. The upgraded lume is very legible. It just screams of the sorely missed nostalgic 90s era. I’m very tempted to buy the blue one too, it just looks stunning! If you can’t tell, I grew up in the 90s and started my love of watches with Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond and his trusty Omega Seamaster Professional and it just spun out of control from there.
