I got this so that younger kids can explore music. I had seen 'Panda' drums advertised online and decided to get one. However, it ended up entertaining 3 twenty-year-old guys for quite some time. They tried out some of the songs in the book. Then they started looking up "minecraft music for panda drums" online so they could try it out. It happened to be someone's birthday that day so they even played that. The book is even more entertaining. The story it tells goes along with the stickers on the different notes. It weaves together a funny story. It wasn't meant to be a funny story but I think the story is a translation from another language because it didn't quite translate perfectly. But it gave the guys a good laugh. It comes with stickers to put on the notes to help you see them better. It has a really nice case too. Very impressive quality. Even a moody teen girl liked it. She's hard to please sometimes yet she was drawn to it. It's fun to play with I must admit. The upper notes don't have the same lovely tone that you expect from one of these. They are also the smaller surface area notes, so they are a little 'tinny' sounding. The first 5 notes are just lovely and have that long lasting hum to them. It's a great way to introduce music to kids. They immediately are 'playing' so they aren't afraid of it as its not intimidating like some instruments can be.

This steel tongue drum is a lovely introduction to music for young children. The eight note layout makes it easy to play, and each note sounds pleasant so children can explore without frustration. The tone is soft and calming rather than loud. The size is perfect for small hands and it works well as a companion instrument instead of your typical toy. It encourages creativity and sensory exploration, making it fun and educational at the same time. It is very sturdy feeling.. It comes with a booklet of various children's songs that you will know, vs ones you have never even heard... so the child can try to learn some easy songs right out of the box. I am thankful I had access to a piano as a kid, and music has been an active part of my life ever since. It may, or may not have been otherwise. This item is an age appropriate, perhaps first introduction for a kid to start making their own music very early on, and perhaps reveal a talent that would have not otherwise been uncovered. With 8 notes it gives you a full octave. The pictures on each note attract the kid and gives them a frame of reference for each note. I had heard these panda drums before and I was concerned that the sound of a toy version might disappoint, but I was pleasantly surprised. What a great contrast to so many toys today that are supposed to entertain the child, where this this the child can entertain themselves. And a step up from the toy xylophones they had when I was a kid, maybe they still do.
