Check out all of the tutorials on the Tube. Follow those instructions and you'll be alright. The hardest part is getting the M4 Mini case open. Have a quality set of torx bits on hand - a silicon based mac - a good data transfer cable - and you are good to go. I was surprised at how easy it went, as well as how quickly everything was recognized and up and running. I bought a used M4 - booted it once to make sure it worked and then installed this chip - module - whatever you want to call it. The second boot was just as flawless as the first. I didn't disconnect any cables, you can if you want, but don't need to. The board appeared to be of good quality when compared to the original but that is just my opinion and not based on any history of inspecting printed circuit boards.

I am one of those people who chose to purchase a new M4 Mac Mini with only a 256 GB drive and then upgrade it to a CHGRNLF Macmini M4 SSD Hard Disk 2 TB. There is plenty of documentation on how to do this, but I chose iFixIt's instructions, and the whole upgrade was complete in an hour. The new drive is working fine and is quite fast! I'm not sure how durable it will be, but I'm assuming that if it doesn't break in the first 30-60 days, I'm good for the long haul. Apple wanted $800 to upgrade the Mini to 2 TB. The purchase and installation of this drive saved me over $500! If you're handy and not intimidated by computers, this is a no brainer in upgrading to a 1 TB or 2 TB drive. If there is a problem with this drive, I'll report back. In the meantime, I am delighted with the performance and speed of the drive and computer. UPDATE: June 26, 2026. No hic-cups with this drive. It keeps running perfectly, and in combination with the M4, is lightning fast. While the price has gone up dramatically, it is still less than Apple would charge. This drive makes for a very effective upgrade to an M4 Mac mini!

I bought this product without such high expectations. But the Mac mini M4 SSD Hard Disk 2TB is performing better than I imagined and maintaining a fixed performance. So I’m going to buy another one for my setup. Thanks to the producers and distributors who made such a great product. "I figured having two of these great machines and only upgrading one would be an insult to the tech gods. So, I had to do it.” (Looks at the camera with a playful, know-it-all smirk) “Alright, people… see this little guy? This is my Mac mini M4 SSD Hard Disk 2TB. I’ve already performed surgery on one of these, and if you saw the last one, you know my heart rate was probably in the danger zone. But honestly… after you’ve done it once, the fear kind of… fades away. (Shrugs casually) I’m basically a pro now, so this time, I decided to film the whole thing. If I mess up? Hey, I’ll just upload a ‘Second-Time’s-the-Fail’ video. (Looks genuinely worried for a second) No, no, that won’t happen. Probably. Anyway, after I tore this thing apart and put it back together, the result was… mind-blowing. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Quick free delivery with Amazon Prime Ease of installation: If you're using a 2024 M4 Mac Mini to restore your Mac Mini, you need to use the front USB ports to perform the DFU. If you use the back USBs, it will start but then fail reporting "Error-21". If you're the owner of this store, update your instructions around the "Error-21" section to include this information and I'll give you the 5th star.

I did not want to continue to be concerned with storage management where the operating system resides and decided to upgrade my MacMini M4 from 256 GB to a 1 TB drive. After watching several videos of the upgrade procedure, I purchased and installed the storage module with no issues. The MacMini performance is much better and I no longer need to be concerned with storage management. 1 TB storage is more than enough for me as I do have several external drives hooked up to my system. So far, everything is working to my satisfaction and will update this review if anything changes.

The SSD upgrade to 2TB worked well on my base M4 Mac Mini. No tools are included in the kit so be sure you have T3, T5 and T8 Torx tools to perform the installation. You’ll also need the thin plunger (thin guitar pick) to pop open the back cover. Following one of the many online videos, the installation and restore from backup went well. Not sure yet as to the long-term viability of this upgrade, but will report back if there are problems. I saved my original 256GB SSD just in case. Shipment was really fast - literally overnight and the price was right. Read and write speeds appear to be faster than the original SSD at about 3200 MB/sec write and just under 3000 MB/sec read. When opening the M4, don’t disconnect any of the cables - just remove the 10 T5 screws, 2 T3 screws and 1 T8 screw.
