  • Good table clamps
Size: 201A
If you have a workbench and need to clamp something down maybe even a drafting table this could clamp it down good and has a good hold.

  • Very small toggle clamps
Size: 201A
I got this chfine 10 Pack of Hold Down Toggle Clamps size 201A to use in jigs in the workshop to hold items down while working on them with machinery of some sort. While I don't have a specific purpose in mind right now, it's good to know I have them around should the need arise that I might need them. In fact, when I ordered them initially, I thought that maybe I could use them to clamp down workpieces to the spoilboard of my CNC router, but I don't realize while ordering just how small they are. They likely would not be strong enough for that, as the workpieces undergo quite a bit of lateral stress while they are being milled. Maybe I'll try it as an experiment at some point when I have time to purely play around. Perhaps if I use at least four of them together they'll do the trick. Anyway, they are what they are. I included a photo of the clamps next to a tape measure to give an idea of their size. The clamping heads are adjustable via turning nuts above and below the clamping jaw to lock the heads in place at the desired height. The range of heights that I got are from about 2mm from the surface the clamp is mounted to through about 10mm BELOW the surface the surface the clamp is mounted to. So unless clamping very thin pieces the clamp will need to be elevated by mounting them on a block of some sort, and securing the block to the work surface by some means. I'm sure that I'll find that perfect use for them eventually. That's the way it is sometimes - I may have no immediate need for an item I order and then all of a sudden it's just what I need for a project! ... show more

  • Cute little clamps, made it economical to set up my jig
Size: 201A
I have a jig to hold shaped hardwood in place so it can be milled. I have a stack of wood to mill, and more coming. I needed a way to hold a piece of hardwood down and I looked for clamps I could attach to the jig. I found these, got them, and they're working wonderfully. I especially like that I have many little clamps around the perimeter instead of a few larger clamps. Being smaller, they don't get in the way as much. And being less strong per clamp, there is less chance of marring the wood. Many small clamps can be as strong, or stronger, than a few larger clamps, too. Remember, Gulliver was held down by the Lilliputians. Even though they were small, he was held securely. I find these clamps are good for a custom setup. You need to anchor the base of each, which means putting in some screws. Putting them into what? Certainly not your work piece. The clamps don't have a high reach or a deep throat, but work fine with a flat work piece at the same level. If this fits your use case, you should consider these clamps. They're inexpensive, small, and functional. One last note: you are reading a Vine review, which means this product was sent to me without my having to pay for it. I never believed Vine reviews, I felt people would say anything to get free stuff. The Vine program, at least for me, is a little different: I only get what I go out of my way to ask for, and everything I get is reported as income to me, so I'll have to pay income taxes at what will probably be reported as list price. I may actually lose on the deal. But I wanted this product, it's something I use, I didn't know these little inexpensive little clamps existed before I saw them available as a set for review, and, hopefully, my experience has been a help to you. ... show more

  • Functional design, but you will need to make your own spacers to be able to use these clamps.
Size: 201L
This review refers to a height issue that may be specific to the smallest 201L series clamps. Larger clamps may have less of a problem or none at all. While these clamps are of good quality and work like any other hold down clamps, there is a poor match between the adjustable rubber tip length and the height of the metal base. There is no way to clamp material or to even close the clamps in the fully over-center latched state unless you elevate them on a 3D printed or similar pedestal. It looks like the minimum spacer height should be ideally approximately .300" to .330" high. Let's assume that you want to screw these clamps to a waste board so you will be able to clamp thin sheet stock up to about .200" thick. For example, you might want to be able to quickly swap sheet metal panels for CNC machining. To accommodate material of varying thickness you would want to nominally adjust the clamp so that the rubber tip is fully extended and have the base of the clamp mounted such that you have zero (or slightly negative) clearance to your board with the lever in the fully clamped position. This means that you could then be able to clamp thin sheet metal or stock up to about .200" thick by adjusting the nuts on the shaft of the rubber tip. The problem is that no matter how you have the rubber tip depth set, even with minimum extension, it extends well below the plane of the clamp's mounting flanges. The metal base of the clamp should be at least about .300" higher than it is for these clamps to work out of the box. The photo shows the clamp resting on a piece of .375" thick wood, which is a little thicker that what I determined to be a required spacer height of about .330 "for optimum clamping range. The rubber tip is shown resting on a white strip of styrene that is .030" thick. To be able to firmly clamp thin stock the spacer under the clamp base would need to be the thinner .330" or somewhat less. Ultimately the thickness of the material you want to clamp will determine the spacer thickness that you need. But the takeaway point is that, as supplied, the clamp will not be able to close at all, much less clamp stock of any thickness if simply mounted to a board. If you accept this and can make spacers out of wood, metal, or printed plastic to suit your needs, they will work fine. ... show more

  • great for jigs
Size: 201A
I like these toggle clamps a lot - they're priced cheap enough that I don't mind using a few on my jigs. Unlike bigger toggle clamps that cost upwards of 15-20$ per clamp, I don't feel the need to be stingy with these, or take them off each time for different clamps. They hold tight and have enough adjustment that they're really versatile. ... show more
