Good heavy clamps. Worth the money.

  • Excellent clamp
Size: 36 Inch
I purchased these clamps as part of a large and complicated workbench project. (I had resisted the temptation to buy them sooner because this style of clamp is a bit pricey.) They performed perfectly and made a stressful glue up very manageable. The bars are stiff and did not flex much at all, even under a lot of pressure. The grips are comfortable and provide a firm grasp. One feature I really appreciate is the smooth bar design. This design makes it very easy to clean in the event that glue drips on the bar. Other parallel clamps have ridged bars that can accumulate glue and make it very difficult to clean. While relatively expensive, these clamps perform tasks where others cannot. With large glue ups, these are essential. They will not replace other clamps for lighter jobs. In fact, I will probably use my f-style clamps 90% of the time, but am so glad to have these when the need arises. ... show more

  • Quality at a price.

These are Jorgensen. They are quality out right. You are paying for that quality. Worth it every time. Buy these things slowly over time and build an amazing workshop. They come full assembled and ready to go. I haven't had any issues with grip or hold and I work with these almost daily. They are heavy which is a nice feature. ... show more

  • Good Quality Parallel Jaw Clamps, but Don’t Dispose of Your Old Clamps
Size: 48 Inch
Over the last 12 months I purchased 56 Cabinet Master parallel jaw clamps, ranging in size from 18 inches to six feet. Overall, I find these Jorgensen parallel clamps useful for many clamping situations, but inadequate or frustrating to use in other situations. Other brands of parallel jaw clamps may have similar problem scenarios as these clamps. On a few occasions during glue ups, I have had to remove a Jorgensen parallel jaw clamp and replace it with a 20 to 30 year old Jorgensen steel I-bar clamp or an equally old Pony ¾” pipe clamp when the parallel jaw clamp’s screw refused to turn far enough to draw a mortise and tendon joint together, refused to close the gaps in a tight tolerance ¼, ¼, ¼ drawer box, or the jaws moved beyond parallel once a joint was fully closed. Positives (using the U.S. manufactured Jorgensen steel I bar clamps as a point of comparison): • The plastic jaws rarely require using glue blocks to avoid leaving dents in the wood that is clamped. • So far, it has not been necessary to use painter’s tape, waxed paper, or similar items between the wood and the bars of the clamps to prevent black staining in high tannin woods such as oak where the bar of a clamp makes contact with a glue joint. • Having the fixed end of the clamp completely flat allows the clamps to be used in areas where a steel I-bar clamp or pipe clamp will not fit. The flat fixed end of the clamps also permits panel glue ups to be easily stood on their edge while drying, even when different length clamps are used in the glue ups. • The long flat jaws enable the clamps to be laid flat across the surface of boards to be glued (such as 1/8” thick edging for plywood panels) to spread the clamp pressure evenly over a wider area, potentially reducing the number of required clamps. • The coarse and fine adjustments for clamping pressure are made at the same end of the clamps, which may simplify certain glue ups. Negatives: • When used or held in a vertical orientation, the non-fixed end of the clamps will shift position, potentially causing the face of the movable end of the clamp to slam into the fixed end of the clamp. This undesirable movement may lead to pinched fingers, reduced clamp life, and clamping issues during glue ups. • The clamp faces may move beyond parallel when the clamps are used to draw together a glue joint. • The tightening the clamp by hand, there may be occasions where the clamp handle refuses to turn before a glue joint is fully brought together. I have experienced this problem with at least one 30 inch clamp and at least one 60 inch clamp during glue ups, while the other clamps of the same size worked as expected in the glue up. ... show more
