  • Diamond in the Rough!
Style: Medium Duty Old
Now this is how men clean! With power drills! I've been looking at better and more efficient ways to cleaning the bathroom. Mainly the sink, tub, and shower. I've tried everything from scrubbers, foaming tile bleach cleaner, regular tile bleach cleaner, steam, sponges, car scrubbers, bleach tablets, pressure washer, straight bleach, and hard cushion foam. The foam paired with the tile bleach cleaner did the best, but required a lot of elbow power. I saw on TV the Clorox bathroom scrubtastic and got real interested in it. It was pretty pricey, but if it could clean my bathroom with little effort, i'd be happy. After watching hundreds of reviews on the unit, I came away with a couple of conclusions. 1. Underpowered (It spins fast, but apply just a little pressure, and it doesn't spin so fast anymore. Plus pressure kills the battery faster. So not for heavy tub stains) 2. Short battery life (It gets about 1hour and 40min worth of use after one charge, but if you have 3 bathrooms to clean, your not going to get much done in a day) 3. Long charge time (takes a while to charge the battery. Some users say about 2 hours or more) 4. Battery not replaceable (you finish the lifespan of the battery, you can't replace them. You have to purchase a new unit.) After coming to these conclusion, I thought about building my own. Maybe I could get a scrubtastic, and run it off of an old drill motor and battery. But Than I wondered if they just made scrub brush attachments for drills. I knew they made foam attachments that you could use to buff your car or clean your headlight as I've seen them at the car wash isle in Walmart. But never had I come across a brush. Nonetheless, I checked eBay to see if they make them, and sure enough they did! But a lot of eBay sellers wanted at-least 25 dollars for one. I might as well buy the scrubtastic! But then I came across this listing with great reviews. It was also a lot cheaper than the eBay listings and the scrubtastic. I decided to give it a try. All I can say is wow. This brush gets the work done fast with little to NO effort. The only effort I had to put in, was keeping the drill steady. That being said, I think any drill, even the cheap 20 dollar ones will do fine. However, if you have some stubborn stains, You will need a more powerful 2 speed drill preferable with a handle attachment to keep the drill more steady. I have a cheap black and decker I plan on using with this attachment, but I haven't used it yet. I used it with my Rigid hammer drill. I had to be very careful because the drill was powerful enough to eat through the tub paint. And the brush was strong enough to withstand the abuse! All in all, I had a rusted tub that we used to clean paint brushes, mortar and grout buckets, etc when we were renovating our house. Now its white and bright! I forgot to take a picture before cleaning, but here is how the tub looked after. ... show more

  • Perfect for terrazzo shower stall floor stains!
Style: Heavy Duty Old
So our bathroom had an old terrazzo shower stall floor circa the 70s. Everyone will tell you you shouldn't use bleach products on this. Everyone will also tell you not to use abrasives. But it looked terrible! I tried to contact different terrazzo companies. Nobody wanted to do such a small job. I found YouTube's on the repair of the shower stall terrazzo floors. These repairs looked incredibly specialized with a narrow margin of error. Some local handyman offered to do the repair. But they really didn't seem to understand the things that could go wrong and what was necessary to properly work on the Terrazzo shower stall. And they wanted between 300 and $500! So I decided either I would have to rip up my freshly updated bathroom and put in the new terrazzo shower stall floor or take a shot at cleaning stains myself. I tried Brillo pads. It didn't work I try Dobie pads it didn't work. I tried scrubbing over and over with abrasives. It didn't work. I even tried soaking the floor with a bleach solution. It didn't work. I tried all of the shower spray bottle items with bleach in it. They didn't work. And I thought "too bad there is no scrub brush I could put on my drill and use it with some comet". My thought was that if I ruined the terrazzo shower stall floor it was no loss. I had to replace it anyway. So understanding that there was a potential risk involved here is what I did; 1) wet the shower stall floor and sprinkled a light layer of comet. 2) I attached do you read brush to my cordless drill. 3) I turned the drill on the highest speed possible and lightly used it on the surface of the Terrazzo shower stall floor. I did not push hard because it was not my goal to remove the Portland cement between the flakes of marble. My goal was to evenly and smoothly remove the stain on the surface. I think the key to the success was to use to drill very lightly but for a decent period of time maybe 20 or 30 seconds in one position before moving on. The results? It couldn't have worked better! The brown stains were gone! No little chunks of the Portland cement came out at all. The floor looks bright and clean now. It looks better than it ever has! I'm sure now all the Terrazzo shower stall repair man will come out of the woodwork and disagree with my cheap and easy repair a message but the bottom line is this I couldn't get any of these guys to do it for a decent price. I did it for under 20 bucks and it looks great! It's been a couple of weeks since I've done the repair and there are no Ellie fax. Basically for 20 bucks I repaired the shower stall floor and save myself between 300 and $500 or even worse, the cost of ripping out the shower stall and putting in a new one. One more time – use it lately on the surface don't push down hard so you don't damage the floor the results will be fantastic! ... show more
