I like our new meat thermometer so far. It has a few features that make it better than the last one we had: 1) a separate on-off button so I can leave the thermometer open without running the battery down. 2) the thermometer makes a loud sound when the target temperature has been reached (so I don't even have to look at the reading). 3) it uses 2 AAA batteries rather than coin-style batteries. And the price is very reasonable. Time will tell if it lasts longer than the last one (3 years). ... show more

Well, I have purchased other these do dads and not as Helpful…… This works for the average Person trying to cook while giving you the correct temperature for different meat. With the money And there you go!

This instant read thermometer has some nice features, but has room for improvement. It's quick, seems accurate, and the "folding" feature is nice for storage. 1. It would be nice if there was a way to hang it on the grill while not directly using - such as a magnet or hanger loop. Instead, you have to juggle it with any plates or utensils you may be using. 2. The beeps when moving between settings are pretty loud. 3. I like my steaks rare to medium rare. The lowest temperature setting for beef is 145, a little above most guidelines for medium rare. I have to use the user temp setting for cooking steaks. That being said, its ultimate purpose is to provide a temperature reading quickly, which it does. I got this to replace an ancient thermometer which was slow, inaccurate, and had a rather blunt, large-diameter probe that made a huge hole in the meat. The Char-Broil is wonderful. The slim probe pierces meat easily, folds for storage, and can be used at various angles, which is handy for tight places in the oven or smoker. Preset the desired temperature and it beeps to let you know when that temperature has been reached. I didn't think I'd need that feature but it really is quite handy. "Instant-Read" is not an exaggeration; it is very quick. Another plus is that this thermometer uses AAA batteries, not some oddball type that you'd have to hunt for.
