I bought this generator to try to survive Hurricane Florence, mostly to run my mother-in-law's oxygen concentrator overnight if needed. As it turned out, we did not have a power outage, but I felt secure knowing that we'd have power if needed. The generator is compact and powerful at 3500+ watts - able to run my freezer, refrigerator/freezer and several small appliances (including the oxygen concentrator) with no trouble. I especially like the Eco Mode, which allows the generator to run at a low idle, increasing speed automatically when a load is applied - a real fuel saver and extender (Manufacturer says up to 17 hours on a 2.9-gal tank.) The fuel shut-off valve is great for preparing the generator for storage, allowing it to run itself out of gas, even with some in the tank, and not gum up the carburetor. This generator is not especially quiet, not like the super-quiet models of another manufacturer, but it does run quietly in the Eco Mode. Nor is it easily portable, but my 70-year-old body can handle getting it in and out of the vehicle. It has a small footprint so it doesn't get in the way and transports easily.     • Generator with 4000 starting watts runs my AC unit

I increased my running watt and start up watt capacity so I could run my generator on my 5th wheel trailer AC unit (13,500 AC). I have tested the generator and run recommended 5 hours break in. After the break in I have hocked it up to my 5th Wheel trailer and I runs all of my major power users including my AC unit. So I am happy. The generator is noisier than my previous inverter generator, but previous had was smaller capacity (3100 Watts start up) and would not run the AC unit. About 7 db, I have a tool to measure the noise level. Unit is small in size, and compact and light weight as these generators go. Did not want Electric start with battery and the weight and Maintenance that goes with that. Engine starts easily with manual start. Manual start is just fine. I purchased the wheel kit separately and it installed easily and works well. Does not add a lot height or weight. Weight was a bid deal to me as I carry the generator in the back of my Dodge 3500 truck which is a ways off the ground as it ships from the factory. With the wheels installed the generator is not above the side rail of the truck. Staying below the side rail is necessary for 5th turn above the generator. My third Champion Generator and have worked well and keep running until sold them and got a different model. ... show more

    • Bad Start, Strong Finish

I was all set to buy the 3400 watt unit with the electric start until I saw someone mention the 4000 watt digital hybrid. I looked over the specs and decided this was more to my liking. I read the reviews and that only convinced me more that this unit would suit my needs more as my Honda 3000i Handi was getting up there in the hours of use. When I ordered it I also ordered the wheel kit for it as it would make it much easier to move around after it was on the ground. When it arrived I put the wheel kit on it, added the oil (10w30), set it on the ground. Added gas, opened the shutoff valve, waited a couple of minutes and gave it a pull. Fired on first pull, shut the choke off and gave it another pull and away it went. Running wide open, bounding around like some mentioned and I even heard the marbles in the can sound. I thought that this just wasn't going to do. I turned the ECO switch to on and nothing happened. That's when I noticed that no light was lit up to tell whether it was producing power or not. A quick check with a volt meter verified that no power was being produced. I shut the it down, called the 800 tech support number. Told them what I was experiencing. In a matter of minutes they decided there were some connections not connected on the computer board, walked me thru how to get to the computer. Found a plug with six or seven wired had not been connected during assembly. Plugged it back in started it up and the generator wasn't jumping around anymore, ECO throttle was working, power was being produced, and the marbles in the can sound disappeared. Ran it thru the break in procedure the next morning by hooking it to my camper and turning on different circuits. Once an hour I let it run with the ECO throttle off. After the 5 hr break in, changed oil again and now its ready to its first big outing. I didn't rate it a five at this point because of the tech glitch off having to connect wires that were missed during assembly. ... show more

Bought this generator after MONTHS of research! I didn’t want to spend thousands on a Honda or any other brand that costs that much. This is the PERFECT little generator!! It ran our 26’ travel trailer with complete ease!! We bought it specifically for our trip to Lake McConoughy and it did SO well running our aircon and small electrics!! Mind you, it isn’t powerful enough to run the aircon AND microwave at the same time...but that’s ok. You usually don’t run the microwave for very long anyway!! It will do the aircon and coffee maker, PLUS all the charging of electronics. You don’t really get any better than that!! Especially for this price!! My husband could go into all the specifics...but there is a review someone did of specifics that is VERY good and helpful!! I can say I liked the fact that it really was quieter than most generators (only a few dB quieter, but you can tell)!! But it’s still a generator...it’s going to be loud no matter what!! Oh, we also purchased the wheel kit for this specific one too...THAT is a NECESSITY!! This little thing is HEAVY, so with the coordinating Champion wheel kit, it makes it 100x easier to move!! HIGHLY recommend this little thing as the price was amazing, and it does better than most generators in the thousands you can get!! ... show more
