  • Ceramics for fun
A great beginner's book on ceramics for people who want to pursue this activity as a hobby or even start a small business later on. Anyone should try it and unlock their inner creativity. Reading the book you will learn about history of ceramics. You are going to learn how to work with pottery clay, basic pottery techniques and tools, types of glazes, paints. The pinch pottery techniques are also explained. Reading further you are going to learn about different firing processes in the kiln, as well as how and what to use for decorating ceramics. A few images would be helpful throughout the book. A good follow-up would be taking a pottery class and experience it for yourself. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to try experimenting and creating great art pieces in clay. ... show more

  • Good Read
Ceramics is an educational tool book written about ways that one could make ceramics. Anyone interested in pottery would really like this book. The book begins with providing the history of ceramics and then how to work with pottery clay, understanding the process and decorating it. I believe a single pottery lesson would cover all of this however if you aren’t able to take that trip, then this is a good book to have. ... show more

  • Beneficial for Personal Health
Ceramics, or the art of pottery-making, is a beautiful craft which can be both personally beneficial, and potentially valuable. It encourages concentration, focus, and mindfulness, and is a useful release from the psychological "pressure cooker" of stress. Additionally, it might expand to a profitable craft hobby. Enjoy this useful guide to the history and process of Ceramics. ... show more

  • Good basics
I found the book to be a good starting point for basic potter understanding. It covered all the elements of ceramics without getting into techniques.

  • Doesn’t really teach you how
This short book is decent in learning history, materials and short details on process, however it is not an instructional text depicting various ways to make things. I was hopeful in learning a new technique, however, this provides a basic overview of ceramics in a very generalized manner. There was also important information left out of the text, even mentioned in name but not delved into as to create a more complete view of ceramics. Perhaps less should have went into history and more into useful information for today. This is your book if you know nothing about ceramics and want to learn, if not, find another text. ... show more
