Been using castrol products for over fifty years. I have never had a seized or blown engine. Castrol is not always the cheapest, but occasionally it goes on sale and is very price competitive. I run the high mileage oil in my vehicles that have over 70K miles. Apparently it is somewhat overkill as the engines from the early 2000s seem to be cast with superior metal alloys than from earlier times, which is what the additives in high mileage are supposed to compensate for. In any event, I'm not into rebuilding engines any more than i have to so I'm looking for any edge I can get ... show more

Growing up my dad was a gear head, we had a family business (Mechanic Shop). My first car was a Pinto that was decked out...lol. I used Castrol Oil because my dad said it was the best oil I could put in a motor. Through all my years and all my cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, generators, lawnmowers and more, I continue to use the best... Castrol. My Dodge 1500 Ram 4x4 has only received Castrol full synthetic and now it takes the high mileage version. The truck has almost 400,000 miles on the odometer, it's a 2004. I've never had 1 issues with the motor and it doesn't leak oil, never has. My other vehicle a 2007 Hyundai has only received the Synthetic blend from Castrol and it has almost 200,000 miles on the odometer...never a problem with the motor and it doesn't leak oil. I can say that Castrol is a dependable brand. ... show more

This is a review of the Castrol Edge 10W30 Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 quart I have used several different types of oils in my yard equipment (snow blower, generator and lawn mower) and have settled on this as it just simply performs great for my needs. This gives me a solid protection of my engines and is able to handle my weather conditions which dip a little below freezing on occasions and is typically anywhere from 30 to 90 degrees year round. I did not want to have to worry about using different oils at different times of the year and like to change my oil in my machines at the beginning of each season. (They do not get commercial use.) I have yet to have any issues what so ever in any machines I use this in and based on use so far would recommend. For the price, I could not go wrong. For a synthetic, it is very economical and offers a lot in terms of quality. Sorry to report I am no expert and can not go into what exactly would make this a better oil than others. l can only vouch for what I found works great in my residential built machines as noted above. As with all my reviews, if this fails to hold up to my expectations or machines begin to have problems with use, I will update this review accordingly. ... show more
