  • Unique but not for everyone
Excellent interpretation of a modern classic. Be informed that an LCD display does not emit light; it reflects it. Thus a "negative" LCD display such as this model reflects about 95% less light than a standard LCD. This is by design as the watch will be invisible in low or zero ambient light conditions (all buttons, bracelet buckle, and visible case screws are DLC matte black as well). Unlike Taser or Luminox models this watch can be worn outside cuffs in a standard orientation (not turned around). Thus this is a purpose built model. If you are looking for a flashy watch or a bright display this watch is not for you. Like all G-shocks it is also virtually indestructible. A very unique watch that is well suited for its intended purpose, but not much else unless you collect "military" watches best to steer clear or you'll end up returning it like many do. ... show more

  • Brilliant day to day
Top notch watch. Wanted one for ages and found it at this good price. The score is low on easy to read because it is a military style and is not meant to be easy to read at night - unless you press the light. It is however absolutely fine during the day but may take some getting used to. Excellent watch and really happy with it. ... show more

  • The ideal KISS watch
Keep it simple, stupid. I graduated to this watch from the $12 Casio models that survived the 80's to look cool again. Trouble was, their watch bands broke periodically and they generally felt a little flimsy. Their faces scratched easily. Their night lights were blindingly bright. I wanted something no-frills and stealthy for daily wear. Not an eye catcher at first glance, but easy on the yes at second look. This one does it. The watch is slimmer than most (enormous) G-Shocks but can hold its own on my wrist. The inverted display looks awesome. I have not had trouble reading it as others have mentioned, but if I did, it would be an excuse to use the beautiful display light, which, I might add, is gentle on the retinas. The band is comfortable and fits my wrist with lots of eye-holes on either side for adjustment. Solid metal buckle. This watch doesn't do one-thousand things. I have an iPhone for GPS/compass/etc. This watch does what it must, and it does it well. Timer/alarm/date/day/time. Enough already. It's a winner. [...] ... show more

  • Great build and quality of the 5600 series by Casio
Great build and quality of the 5600 series by Casio. The green backlight looks awesome in the dark . The blacked tinted hardware is one of the things i love the most about this watch. I haven't experienced issues reading the black display in bright sunlight conditions.

  • Great Watch. Comparison To GW5600J-1
About 5 months ago I bought my first G-Shock: the . That watch is a G-Shock that looks very similar this one, but it has atomic & solar capabilities. This watch, although it cost me just slightly more, is neither atomic or solar. I was skeptical if I would really like this watch. My primary attraction was the design: all black. A few things I noticed compared to theGW5600J-1: the band on this watch is softer with a slightly different feel, you notice it right when you put it on your wrist. Also, the metal on the band is black, vs. silver on the GW5600J-1. The buttons on this watch are easier to use than the GW5600J-1. Actually, the GW5600J-1 kind of annoys me how difficult the buttons are to push. This watch is easier to use in that respect. This watch could be difficult to read in very low light conditions, but because the buttons are so easy to use, turning on the light with the press of a button is painless. Overall, both the GW5600J-1 and this watch are great watches. The GW5600J-1 is probably a better value, but doesn't have the unique style this watch has. I'm happy to own both, and would recommend this watch. I gave 4 stars instead of 5, only because the lack of solar/atomic at the same price point just doesn't make 100% sense to me. Also: the photo of this product on Amazon might look a little grey, but this watch is definitely black, not grey. Another big advantage over the GW5600J-1 is that this watch displays BOTH the day and date on the screen at the same time. The GW5600J-1 only displays day or date, which is incredibly inconvenient. After owning both G-Shocks for many months, this watch has become the watch I wear on a daily basis and I highly recommend it. The dark display does take just a little getting used to, but now I don't even notice it and I never really find myself having a hard time reading it. ... show more

  • I love this watch
I love this watch, especially with a nice set of bull bars. I don't use any of the features except time, so I cannot speak to those. For me it's about having a classic looking G-Shock for everyday use. And this one fits the bill.

  • time is not easily visible. I do not recommend this watch
time is not easily visible. I do not recommend this watch. I was going to return it, but the postage for shipping was going to be too much seeing that would need to be shipped to Singapore.

  • Tough, no frills
For the last several years, since I've been carrying an iPhone, I stopped wearing a watch. Entering the Police Academy, I find that talking on a cell phone non stop is no longer acceptable, so I needed a watch. I asked a cop friend what to get, he said to get a digital watch that showed time in 24 hour mode. My other criteria were that it needed to be tough and not stand out as a piece of techno-gear strapped to my wrist. This fits the bill. I do wish it would link to the atomic clock in Colorado and had solar power, but this fit my budget. Great watch. I'm not bothered by the display at all; it reminds me of the LED watches of the 70s. ... show more
