  • Great Watch. Comparison To GW5600J-1
About 5 months ago I bought my first G-Shock: the Casio Men's GW5600J-1 G-Shock Atomic Tough Solar Watch . That watch is a G-Shock that looks very similar this one, but it has atomic & solar capabilities. This watch, although it cost me just slightly more, is neither atomic or solar. I was skeptical if I would really like this watch. My primary attraction was the design: all black. A few things I noticed compared to theGW5600J-1: the band on this watch is softer with a slightly different feel, you notice it right when you put it on your wrist. Also, the metal on the band is black, vs. silver on the GW5600J-1. The buttons on this watch are easier to use than the GW5600J-1. Actually, the GW5600J-1 kind of annoys me how difficult the buttons are to push. This watch is easier to use in that respect. This watch could be difficult to read in very low light conditions, but because the buttons are so easy to use, turning on the light with the press of a button is painless. Overall, both the GW5600J-1 and this watch are great watches. The GW5600J-1 is probably a better value, but doesn't have the unique style this watch has. I'm happy to own both, and would recommend this watch. I gave 4 stars instead of 5, only because the lack of solar/atomic at the same price point just doesn't make 100% sense to me. Also: the photo of this product on Amazon might look a little grey, but this watch is definitely black, not grey. Another big advantage over the GW5600J-1 is that this watch displays BOTH the day and date on the screen at the same time. The GW5600J-1 only displays day or date, which is incredibly inconvenient. After owning both G-Shocks for many months, this watch has become the watch I wear on a daily basis and I highly recommend it. The dark display does take just a little getting used to, but now I don't even notice it and I never really find myself having a hard time reading it. ... show more

  • bonito pero tiene poco contraste
es un muy bonito reloj pero los números son un poco más oscuros de como salen en las fotos, entonces a veces resulta difícil de ver la hora

  • Great Watch, You Pay For The Stealth
First off, this watch is based on the classic Casio square faced G-Shock. A great all-around watch, does everything you want it to do, nothing you don't. Built like a tank. This model is a special military-like version - matte black finish, black buttons, reverse LCD display. It looks really great, dresses up the otherwise Casio-like appearance of the standard model. It's almost twice as much, though, so you really have to like the model to shell out more for this style variation. As others have said, yes, the reverse LCD can be a touch difficult to read at times. In dim light, it's the most difficult to read - but the watch does have a nice luminescent light function. In decent light, it's OK to read. But that's the nature of the beast with reverse LCDs. Also, on my model, I had some difficulty pressing the Adjust button. While G-Shocks are designed with very recessed buttons for protection, this Adjust button seemed abnormally deep, making it really hard to press (near impossible while on my wrist). This may have been a fluke to mine, as I've seen other versions of this watch that did not exhibit the same issue. ... show more

  • It is, what it is.
This is my first time back with the G-Shock line of watches since the mid 90's and the thing that initially grabbed my attention was the diversity of the G-Shock line from the earlier years. After researching the different models I found myself right back with the same basic style but with a tactical twist. Hard to get away from such a simple but rugged design. The 5600MS-1 is just that. I almost went with the atomic/solar version but decided the 5600MS-1 was really all I needed. The only thing i would change about it would be to have more than 1 alarm. I work shift, so my wake up time changes but it's simple enough to adjust. The black out feature looks cool and i've had no problem seeing the display unless the lighting was low and with a simple push of a button, a substantial backlight illuminates the whole screen/display very well. Another reason I chose the 5600MS-1 was size. Many of the other G's seemed too big to wear with long sleeves without catching or constantly adjusting. This G is big enough to do the job but small enough to wear comfortably with any clothing. Good deal so far and time will tell if it has the old G-Shock dependability. I'm betting it does. ... show more

  • Brilliant day to day
Top notch watch. Wanted one for ages and found it at this good price. The score is low on easy to read because it is a military style and is not meant to be easy to read at night - unless you press the light. It is however absolutely fine during the day but may take some getting used to. Excellent watch and really happy with it. ... show more

  • Excellent watch but one minor flaw
The minor flaw is it has the option, even shows the little symbol, to set the watch so when you turn it 90 degrees the light will come on automatically(during the night time). But when I called Casio they told me that function only works on the pathfinder edition (most expensive one). I guess I didn't read all of the features closely, but why would they have that function available if it doesn't work, but whatever, now I know. Other than that the watch is great: durable, lightweight, stylish (I personally love the all matte black finish or else I wouldn't have gotten it), reads excellent in light, LED light works great, the band does not eat at my skin like others I have owned in the past and I love how G shock still has the throw-back squared style watches (another personal favorite). If you are looking for a durable watch with the features it has at a great price (Casio $99, I got it off amazon for $67 (no shipping)), I would defiantly recommend this watch. So far I am a G shock customer for life :). ... show more
