  • I like that the normal watch mode displays (from top to ...
I am an airline pilot flying for a major US airline. I have owned a Citizen Skyhawk for the past 15 years. It was stolen from my hotel room several weeks ago. Many of my co-workers use Citizen watches ($200-400) and many others are Breitling fans ($3000-7000 on average). I was walking through Walmart the other day and decided to have a look at what they had just for the heck of it. I found this Waveceptor to have all the functions of my Citizen and has an atomic clock sync (which I haven't got to work yet by the way). I like that the normal watch mode displays (from top to bottom) Day of week, month-day-year, home time zone (easily changeable when I go on trips) and has indiglo function. It was hard to see the hands of my Citizen watch at night even though they were supposed to glow in the dark. The next function has time for world cities (from top to bottom) displays city 3-letter code, home time xx:xx / +/- UTC (for chosen city), and chosen city's local time. The watch can display time in several languages and date formats, military time if desired, has a timer, stop watch , and alarm as well as a screen that tells you when the watch was last synced to atomic time. The only problem I have had as mentioned early is the complexity in getting the watch to update with the atomic time. It's a somewhat cumbersome process of placing the watch in a window at night, unobstructed, and even then, the instructions say it may have trouble getting a signal. I guess I need to be closer to Colorado Springs! I would highly recommend this watch for the value and functionality. A great work watch, and at $32 from Amazon, I can afford to have it stolen now and again and just pick up another. ... show more

  • Amazing watch, great price Amazing watch, great price
I've been a loyal Casio customer for going on 20 years. I've worn the G-Shock GW7900B for probably the last 8 years or so. but the older it got the more spendy it got. That one is solar powered and the battery kept dieing on me every 18 months or so the last few years. It's going out again so instead of forking over another $50 + shipping to send the7900 in to get the battery replaced, i found this watch. I love it. Not only is my other watch getting older, so are my eyes. and this WV200A has a larger font i guess you could say so it's easier to read. There aren't as many bells and whistles on this watch as my other, and i wasn't sure i'd like that, but i was wrong. I like not having all those extra functions i only occasionally used. What this watch does have - -Atomic timekeeping, so you never have to worry about resetting the time every time change -Large easy to read numbers -US mm/dd/yyyy format -Timer (default set to 60 minutes) -Stopwatch -1 Alarm The options are easy to find and set, like the hourly chime, daylight savings (on, off, auto) The only thing i don't like, and this isn't the watch's fault, it's my location, is that it won't manually sync to the atomic time servers. I live in the mountains, and the signal here is spotty at best. I have to drive south an hour to the desert area for the signal to sync. Which isn't a big deal, i'm down there at least once a month anyway. The band is a little small for my wrist, but that was expected, i'm a big guy, everything not custom ordered is small. ... show more

  • Waveceptors--Absolutely Great Watches, If You Get a Good One
For decades, I have been using only Casio Waveceptor watches. They are very, very accurate. The built-in radio receiver automatically correct for any time drift in the otherwise very accurate crystal controlled oscillator. This feature is why I buy Casio Waveceptor watches. Otherwise, I have no reason to prefer Casio watches over any other. However, I have noticed variations in how reliably this synchronization is. Some were very fussy about their location, the way they were pointing, etc. Others didn’t seem to care at all about any of that. They just worked. Not sure if the difference is in the radio receiver’s sensitivity, receiver tuning/calibration, or something else. I had quite a bit of trouble getting this particular Model WV200A-1AV to synchronize for the first time. Ironically, once getting it to work, the Receiving Indicator now says we are in a “Strong (Level 3)” area, which is the strongest area. Will try a couple of more times. But if it doesn’t improve, will send it back and order a different one. Still, it would be nice to know if this performance variation is model dependent or common to all/most models. ... show more

  • Love it, should have bought it long ago!
As a long-time user of Casio watches (30+ years) I recently was in the market for a new watch after my old one had taken a beating and was due to be replaced. Now, after having this watch for a week or so I am just as happy and impressed with it as the first day it arrived. First, the atomic time-keeping feature is something that is most helpful, and it's not a new experience for me since I also have this feature on a dressy Casio watch given to me by my wife for our anniversary a few years ago. It insures that a person never has to worry about making sure the watch is set to the correct time frequently updating itself from the atomic time clock in Colorado. Another thing that attracted me to this watch is the mineral crystal, unlike most digital watches that have a plastic crystal these days. This feature--coupled with a raised bezel around the perimeter--helps to prevent scratches caused by day-to-day wear and tear, especially when worn in a work environment. It also has a stainless bezel around the perimeter rather than plastic, which gives the feeling and appearance of better quality. My daily-wear watches do not lead an easy life, frequently exposed to water submersion, bumps, jolts and other abuse, so I feel confident that the design of this one should hold up pretty well. The multi-line display is also a pleasing characteristic. Unlike some models that have all sorts of gaudy dials, colors and other useless info, this one somewhat no-nonsense and practical. Rather than cramming all the info into 1 or 2 small LCD lines, this one has 3 lines which concurrently display the day of the week (along with the alarm and chime setting), date and time. The bottom line showing the time is made up of larger characters than the others which is helpful when quickly glancing at the display to check the time of day (or stopwatch, timer, etc, depending on the current mode). One thing that is always a "must" for me when choosing a watch is a reasonable amount of waterproofness. This one is rated for 200 meters which is more than enough for the frequent splashes and immersions due to many different activities in which I participate. I never have to worry about taking it off when swimming, cleaning/washing items or other wet conditions. To sum it up, this is a great watch and I would recommend it in a heartbeat if you need a rugged daily-wear watch that looks good but isn't overly "gadgety". ... show more

  • Great time keeper
A lot of features packed into this watch, some of which I'll more than likely never use, but at this price point who cares. Can't say how well the auto update feature works as of now, but it keeps time, so I guess all is well. The light is bright, has an alarm (might come in handy if the power goes out) and world time for a bunch of different countries/time zones. Also it has auto daylight savings time adjustment, but I haven't had a watch yet that that feature actually worked liked it was supposed to, but it can be turned on for fast/summer time or off for slow/fall time. Digits are kind of small, so if you're eyesight's not on par without glasses, it can be hard to see, so take that into consideration before purchasing. The band may or may not last, only time will tell (pun intended). Over all it's a great cheap watch, heavier than most, which is good I guess and worth the price. It's a Casio, so the name's been around for a while and they make really dependable watches. I would buy again in a heartbeat when I need a good dependable inexpensive watch. ... show more

  • Louis Prima had a word for it ....
What a cool watch for $33.00! -- I needed a watch to sync with wall mounted atomic clocks and this Waveceptor seemed to be the right one. The instructions (written in the smallest font known to man) were clear. After setting for day, date and time zone, place the watch in a window over night for it to sync. Easy enough to do; I did it. The next morning I checked the watch time against the Naval Observatory Master Clock. My watch was 35 seconds slow! Say it ain't so! I put the watch in the window for the second night thinking I may have missed a satellite (or two) the prior evening. The following morning I again called the Master Clock. Again, 35 seconds slow. What was I to expect for $33.00? Are you still with me? The third night I put the watch on top of my dresser resigned to the fact that when I needed to record the time on an event, to advance the clock time by the 35 seconds. Not really being one to beat my head against a wall, on the third day I still checked the watch against the time on the Master Clock. What? My Waveceptor was 100% in sync with the Master Clock! So, I checked it again. 100% !!! I am at a loss for words. I can not explain it. A $33.00 Casio Waveceptor watch in exact sync with the Naval Observatory Master Clock. This is just one word for it: Magic. Plus the flexible band is comfortable. ... show more

  • Great watch for the first year!
The watch does everything it claims to do, and I really use all the great features. I have owned two of these, the first lasted two years before the battery went out. When I went to replace it, the watch store said that it was impossible to remove the back case cover to replace the battery because of the way the band is attached, and that it had to be sent to Casio. With the back and forth shipping charge and the cost of replacing the battery, it was cheaper simply to buy a new watch! Now, after only 14 months, I am again having what appears to be battery problems since the time continues to reset to the year 2004 with everything off. Too bad this watch's battery cannot be replaced, but I am forced to buy another watch, hopefully with a battery that will last at least two years. That way I can consider my cost of having a watch is $17 a year - Hmmmm. Maybe it's time to ditch the watch and just use my smart phone. ... show more
