As soon as you remove them from the plastic bags they instantly puff up. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and comfort level for the price. This is my 2nd purchase of the same pillows for another room with a couch where I use bed pillows. Tip: Be careful if using scissors when opening. I had purchased these pillows for when I have guests over, but ended up using them on my bed. My head & neck feel supported but it’s not so firm that it is uncomfortable. I am extremely particular about my pillows and am always very skeptical about reading reviews. I am so happy with these pillows I had to write my own. If you’re hesitant about these, don’t be! They are somehow not to soft and not too hard but my neck will tell you they are juuuust right :)
