I'm a big fan of "smart" technology. I've been an early adopter for most smart home technology. I've swapped out most of our switches for smart switches, and I've made most of the plugs we use smart plugs. However, I was always foiled by the multi-speed fan and light in the master bedroom. Now, I have to admit, every time I'd research it, people who know this technology better than me made it seem like a no-brainer, but whenever I'd look at the available products, I struggled to convince myself they would work for my situation (which is simply a light switch and a fan with three speed settings in a single gang). Maybe I was just being dense. However, this was the first product I looked at and thought "Yeah, that will obviously work". So, I bought it, and yep, it obviously worked. Installation was a breeze. The integration with Alexa is a breeze. Getting the light to turn on and off is a breeze. Getting the fan to turn on and off is a breeze. Getting the fan to change speeds...eh, as far as I can tell, you can't do that by voice. Thankfully, we almost always use the fan at the middle setting, so we don't have much need to change the speed. When we do, though, I either have to pull out my phone and fire up the app or actually get up (shudder) and push the buttons on the switch. For that, I deduct one star. All that said, I am happy with this purchase. I can't count the number of times my wife and I would wind up in bed with the fan off (we always sleep with it on) or the light on and then argue about who was going to get up to take care of it.     • In depth review of switch.
This is not a dimmer switch for your lights!!! After watching the video and seeing a slider bar in the controls, I was sold, or so I thought. I've been searching every few months for something that fits the bill to remotely turn on/off/dim the light & control the fan speed as well as work with Alexa in a single gang switch format. This is not that switch. Cons: To cut to the chase, the light is either 100% on or off and nothing in between. The fan has 3 speed as a fan switch normally would. When using the app, you can hear a mechanical relay clicking inside the switch. The buttons feel cheap and flimsy. There are also indicator lights that are always on. The switch is big and is a tight squeeze in a single gang metal mud ring. You also need to verify if you have a 4th neutral wire before ordering this. I did not and had to run a new neutral wire to make the switch operational. Pros: The app was pretty easy to set up and works well. The instructions weren't really needed and pretty intuitive. The back of the switch is clearly labeled if you know which wire is which. All in all, I'm on the fence if I'm keeping it or returning it. At the time of this review, the price was $39.99 which is about double the price of a manual switch that does dim the light & controls the fan speed. I'm also not certain the build quality will hold up to kids pushing the buttons over time. I'll update the review later if anything changes, for now it's a 2-1/2 star item. ... show more

    • Doesn't work with alexa despite the advertisement (Updated)
This doesn't work with Alexa even after enabling the Carro skill. Edit: 4/19/2021 After multiple weeks of Alexa compatibility issue, the unit is now responding to Alexa commands. There must've been a backend update. I've updated the grade accordingly and took into account the initial setup churn.

    • Worth the purchase
Bought this when it was on sale, great purchase so far. Turn off your power from breaker figure out which wire goes to the fan and which goes to the light. You do need a neutral wire. The only thing is and I’m not sure if others have same issue, but when I turn to level three fan, it shuts off. So I’m thinking it’s a safety issue or something to stop it from shorting, but other wise it’s a good switch for a cheaper alternative to other more expensive switch. If you don’t have a designated light wire and fan wire, there is a workable workaround. ... show more

The product installed and functioned as I expected. The only features it doesn't support that I would like to have are setting the fan speed through Google Assistant (fan on/off only) and dimming the lights. Neither are critical for me. Works perfectly with the other voice activated controls I have in my Google home. I can ask specific fan speeds, as well as control the lights (our connected light is a recessed panel separate from the fan itself). I did have to buy a plate separately, as the controls were then combined into a single switch. ... show more

    • Carro switch fulfills promise.
Device works as advertised. Having a neutral ground wire is mandatory. Easily integrates with Google Home and works with voice commands. Installation takes less than 15 minutes.

    • Disappointing Control.
I like the idea of this remote. One issues is that the fan won’t spin up to full speed. Each speed setting is slower than with the original control. Example- when set to speed 3 (high) the fan only spins at medium. Not useful.
